ABOUT ME

I am an open-minded, optimistic, mostly relaxed person with whom it is easy to get along. For the last three years, I have lived on the beautiful island of Tenerife where I was doing a PhD in astrophysics. I graduated a month ago, which made me of course happy, but which also meant that I finally had to leave the island, which made me also said. Tenerife was the place where I got to know Federica, who I married in summer 2014. Also she finished her PhD in astrophysics recently, and now we want to take advantage of our temporary freedom and go on a trip around the world for six months. We have not had a real honeymoon so far, so this trip should also make up for it. However, of course it will not be the typical two week stay in an expensive resort hotel, in order to be able to be on the road for such a long time it is necessary to sleep in the tent and on some couches from time to time.
I have to warn all people allergic against yellow: For them it might be a bit hard spending time with me, I love this color, and so I possess many yellow things, for example most of my clothes are of that color of the sun and happiness ;-) Federica, on the other hand, prefers dots (in any colour), and so she generally carries a lot of dotted items around with her. However, she is much less extreme than I am with my yellow quirk...

HOW WE PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Whenever our schedule allows it, we would like to try to host some people coming around our place on their travels. By doing this, we want to give something back for the times I want to get hosted on my own travels. At the moment, we unfortunately do not have a place of our own, we live temporarily with Federica's parents in Rome.

Interests

We are interested in almost everything, as long as it means having a good time. Our biggest passion probably is travelling, and everything that is closely related to it like checking out new places, getting to know new people, having unique experiences, getting an insight into different cultures. Apart from that, we are very much into many kinds of sports, like hiking in the mountains, cycling, climbing, skiing (cross-country and downhill) in winter just to name some. We also like watching films, cooking together, reading (Federica prefers classics and detective stories, whereas I prefer novels which are based on a real background) and hanging out with friends. Well, and I am crazy about foreign languages, I would like to learn most of them in my life ;-). That is why we recently started to study some Russian, and also because it might turn out to be helpful when crossing Russia in the Transsiberian Railway. Ah yes, and apart from yellow things, I have another addiction, I have to admit, which are maps. I can loose hours studying them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

decided to go to Tenerife for doing my PhD...it has been the most exciting and happiest time of my life so far, I met my wife Federica and we got married there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

In first place, we can share languages. While I am German, Federica is Italian, and since we have lived in Spain for three years, we are also fluent in Spanish. And not to forget of course Italian cuisine...Federica is an expert and I am learning...well, at least I think I have understood some of its secrets.
