About Me

Hello you! I am Bernadette, for my friends and you soon to be friend (hopefully ;)) Berni. I’d consider myself a „always hungry for more“ driven personality that loves self-growth, traveling and exploring as much as possible. I live in an Austrian village close to "Schladming", which is mostly known for amazing skiing areas and hiking trails. I also work as a skiing instructor.
I currently work as a journalist for a local newspaper and a youth magazin. Some years ago i did my first youth exchange in Istanbul at the age of 16. This was the very first time I traveled by myself and ever since I got sort of addicted to it. I realized that I need to see more of this beautiful world we live in! For me ist very important to also give something back to the community which is why I volunteer in trash picking, working on Erasmus+ project with the focus of environmental sustainability. I am also a flexitarian: a person that eats very little meat in order to keep my emmissions a little bit lower. You know – it's in the small things! That is also why i enjoy the little things in life most: if its the beauty of a blue sky or the mystique of a dark and rainy day, i always try to see the beautiful side of life. Friends would often describe me as enthusiastic and positive – which is the most wholesome compliment one could give me!
Also another fun fact to mention here: all my life I've had long hair and I cut it short in the end of August to donate it to kids in need. (just if you wonder about my uploaded pictures)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new friends and learn about their culture and life. I am also a big fan of CS events! It's just amazing how people connect via this app and share amazing experiences together.
There is so many conversations and adventures that start through this app! I realized the spirit of CS when, then a stranger and now a good friend of mine, told me about CS and that I should come with her to one event. This was in April this year: We then had an amazing afternoon exploring Riga together and I will never forget the memories we created together!

Music, Movies, and Books

Whenever someone asks me this question, my mind sort of goes blank: I have to confess that i am one of the people that love random songs, in no particular niche. I enjoy most of all types of music, except for heavy metal, (Sorry you metal heads, maybe somone can convince me one day. ;))
In general I am a big fan of light german rap, like Cro, jeremias,

Usually I find one or two songs that i love and binge hear for 3 weeks straight until I almost can't listen to them anymore. One of the current songs I like listening to currently are: I ain't worried by OneRepublic, glücklich, escape.

Concerning books I love to read everything in the niche self-improvement: wheter it's about time management, building up mindset or how to improve one's communicational skills

When it comes to movies I also enjoy a variety of different genres: sometimes a little bit of action, thrillers and horror movies to scare myself and from time to time a little romance. What I always enjoy is Dirty Dancing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For me ist hard to answer a question like this! There is so many amazing things I got to experience in my life! Just to name some of them: kayaking while trashpicking in Copenhagen Nyhavn. We got to experience the most picturusque place of Copenhagen on water (big tipp for your future travels: check "green kayak". For collecting trash you can rent a kayak and paddle around! Ist amazing!)
Also nightly picnics with friends at the Cote d’azur with some white wine and snacks. Chatting about everything and watching the lights oft he promenade d’anglais from the water.
Feeling the salt on your skin and the sun in your face when swimming in the beautiful waters of Greece and climbing the 999 stairs up the castle in Nafplion. – the best view comes after the hardest climb – this was also my motto when i hiked Lykabettus hill in athens to see the sunrise, the whole city, taking a deep breath, dancing with two french girls and realizing how blessed i am.
I cannot wait to also create new experiences all around the world :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I love to do and would also like to teach you are certainly: dancing and grooving to any music! I like to hit the gym and we can
explore together. I can also give you (most oft he time) endless motivation and enthusiasm for your daily life and sometimes nice pick-up lines ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Enthusiasm, help with household chores, incredibly humorous jokes, an open ear for nice talks. I can also share my austrian culture with you, and of course my highly enjoyable presence while having a nice coffee or some snacks at a picnic.
I also love to take pictures and to be photographed. If you want to do a spontaneous shooting, I am always in!
