ABOUT ME

My name is Katie Berry and I am currently in my third year at Vanderbilt University studying Spanish and chemistry in hopes of one day attending medical school and becoming a doctor. This semester I am living in Madrid for four months taking classes at la Universidad Compultense de Madrid. During this time I hope to explore Spain and travel to Valencia, Córdoba, Sevilla, Ibiza, Barcelona, and Lisbon (just to name a few!). And when my classes end at the beginning of May, a few friends and I will be backpacking around Europe exploring France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and other areas of Eastern Europe.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to use Couch Surfer to travel throughout Spain on weekends for the next few months and probably on my travels through the rest of Europe in May. Since I am currently living with a host family abroad myself, I am unable to host anyone. I am also interested in meeting people- especially for practice with my Spanish!

Music, Movies, and Books

When it comes to music, I enjoy listening to old school rock and roll from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. My top five favorite bands/artists are Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Billy Joel. Current bands I enjoy include chill stuff like Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Adele, Bon Iver, Ray LaMontagne, and the Head and the Heart. Lately, I;ve been really into more alternative stuff and indie pop and have been listening to bands like the Black Keys, the Mowglis, King Charles, Fun., Alabama Shakes, Feist, the Features, the Kooks, and Dr. Dog. For movies, I prefer thought-provoking dramas or mind-bending thrillers. Some favorites include Se7en, When Harry Met Sally, Dead Poets Society, the Goonies, Shawshank Redemption, the Usual Suspects,Good Will Hunting, and Momento. I thoroughly enjoy reading but I find that I don't get to do it for pleasure quite enough with all the reading and other assignments I have for school. I like classics like To Kill a Mocking Bird, Jane Eyre, and Hamlet. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a book that I positively adore. In attempt to embrace cliché for once, I am currently reading On the Road while traveling.
