About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Grab life by the hair and squeeze every drop of love and adventure out of it that I can.

ABOUT ME

I'm a self-employed permaculturist, carpenter/woodworker, field biologist, and teacher of survival skills, Nature literacy, and homesteading skills.
I try to live mindfully and have many skills for homesteading, building, Nature awareness, survival skills, and being regenerative to the world around me. I always try to show my couch surfers a good time and the best of this area.
I was on season 6 of the ALONE show on the History channel if you follow those things.
I moved to Lopez Island in 2014, then San Juan 2023. Instagram is resilience_on_purpose
PHILOSOPHY
Gratitude is our only currency

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I usually travel around domestically, often by motorcycle or camping with my dog out of my jeep, but I also bike tour and hitch hike. I spend a month or two of the year waking up someplace new and have met some really great people on CS, including many now long-term friends. I live on Lopez Island after years of living in the wildernesses of the Siskiyou, Cascade, and Olympic mountains of CA and WA.
Internationally I've traveled in Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, and Canada. Ireland, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, anywhere I can see people living genuinely would all be places I'd like to visit. It doesn't really matter where.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been an active CS'r since the early 2000's as a host and surfer and really have to say it has added to my life in a very positive and tangible way. I recommend it highly.

Music, Movies, and Books

"A New Earth" and "The Power of Now" by Echart Tolle, Permaculture: A Designers Manual, More Than Two, Hafiz, Rumi, Wendell Berry, Robert Service, Wade Davis, The Holistic Orchard, Teaming with Microbes. Planet Earth, Winged Migration. Positive music in any style.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've spent much of my life living in the mountains, the San Juan islands, living in various cabins doing mountain man stuff, talking to Eagles, swimming rapids, building homes and soil, chasing cougars naked through the night forest to save my ducks and geese. I live here to do and see amazing things every day. I really can't pick one, but I did watch the Pleiades meteor shower once from the summit of Mt. Rainier. It was like space invaders! That was pretty special and now I'm hooked on watching meteor showers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I Love to share what I've learned about: orchard care, Nature connection, gardening, carpentry, permaculture design, Soil, Survival skills, Sustainable forestry, food, ecology, philosophy, my home area, making fire wood, energy/light/frequency, backpacking/mountaineering, fisheries, soil, eating, Jin Shin Jyutsu, traditional archery, etc.
I would Love to learn about anything you feel passionate about.
I can teach YOU how to build a fire by rubbing two sticks together.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good time, glasses of wine, campfires on the beach, Island Life! The property I'm on is forested and there are tons of gorgeous places to visit on Lopez. Having guests makes sure that I get out and visit them too! Something I too easily forget to do.
