About Me

Hi! My name is Beth and I'm from a small farming town called Maffra in south-eastern Australia. I am willing to try almost anything when I'm traveling, from exotic foods to extreme sports. Recently, I have become more interested in hitchhiking and couchsurfing. I'm trying to get much more depth in the places I travel by spending more time and trying to get out of the cities when possible. Right now I'm studying Masters of Agriculture. I am very interested in animals and alternative farming.

I don't have many reviews yet, but I have written many more than I've received. This is also because many of the people I've met travelling are through mutual friends and not though couchsurfing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to exchange stories and learn whatever I can from people who have had a different life experience to my own. I want to do more than visit, I want to understand.

Interests

I studied Geology in my undergrad and I love seeing the wonders of the natural world when I'm traveling. I like hiking and the outdoors, but mostly I travel to learn the culture and history of a place. I'm a music lover and I sing and play the piano just for fun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

More recently, I had the incredible experience of visiting the Island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. Situated between Flores and Lombok, this island is overlooked by most tourists. I was amazed by the kindness and warmth of all the people we met there, many who we met through couchsurfing. They proudly showed us their beautiful island and the wonderful coral reefs that lay just off the beaches. An experience I will never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I'm good at sewing, so I can always help you fix something instead of buying a new one. I can teach you some tasty vegetarian dishes. I can tell you stories about my home or the places I've visited. However, I am young. I have much more to learn than I have to teach.

Learn: Everything and anything. There is something to learn from everyone I meet. I want to learn to be a better, more conscious traveller. I want to learn about the culture and the mentality of a place.

Share: If you play music or sing, I would love to share that with you. Also, sharing food and drink. Most importantly, sharing stories.
