Overview
About Me
Excruciatingly bad at introductions.
Hello! I'm Beth, and I live in Belfast, Ireland. I'm a vegan, criminal psychology enthusiast, with a passion for travel and adventure. I currently study English Literature, French, Politics and Music, but hope to study Philosophy and French at uni next year.
I'm an amateur musician and circus performer, having spent 12 years training at Belfast Circus School. This, amongst other things, has led to a tremendous broadening of my travel horizons, taking me to places such as Colorado, Australia, and the oh-so exotic Edinburgh.
My mum, a former journalist and current professor, has also brought a large amount of travel to my life. In the past four years, she's lived in Moscow, Cardiff, Geneva, and is currently living in the South of France.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to travel - not just for the visual, physical, and cultural experiences that you can undergo on your own, but predominantly because of the social experiences that we have along the way. The exchange of stories and encounters, as well as the intermingling of cultures and nationalities, are precisely the things that make travel and adventure worthwhile to me.

Music, Movies, and Books
Nothing gets my vibing like a bit of Brit-rock - Oasis, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, Queen, Nirvana... But also a big fan of more modern, lame-acoustic music, like Flatsound, George Ezra, Keaton Henson, etc. Generally a broad taste in music, but not a huge fan of techno/electric stuff.
In terms of books, On The Road by Jack Kerouac is one of my favourite novels - but in recent months have been abandoning fiction in favour of books such as Nigel Warburton's 'A Little History of Philosophy', and Christopher Berry-Dee's 'Talking with Psychopaths and Savages' (something I'll delve further into elsewhere on my profile).
I'm not the biggest fan of movies, as my attention span is completely ill-suited to that level of focus, but I love documentaries - anything by Louis Theroux will have my full attention for as long as it takes, and environmental and social documentaries such as What The Health, Cowspiracy, and Food Inc. are completely enthralling to me. I also love Studio Ghibli films, most notably Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. Also, after waiting 7 years after its release to actually watch it, The Social Network is topping the list of favourite films.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In July 2015, I travelled to Salida, CO, with 8 other circus students, to teach a group of young people circus and coordinate a show and parade for the 4th of July. For the two weeks we were there, I experienced a myriad of beautiful things - hot springs, the ghost town of St. Elmo's and it's various wildlife features including humming birds and chipmunks, and most importantly, beautiful people.
