Hello! My name is Bethany Martinez, and I am currently a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Ukraine. Peace Corps is a volunteer organization run by the American Governemnt that is non-political and non-religious. I have been living in Western Ukraine in a small village of 1,300 people for the past 15 months and absolutely love it! I work at the local village school holding after school clubs with the students. So far we have a film, English, sports, and Zumba club.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a Peace Corps volunteer one of our Goals is to share American culture with the countries we serve in as well as share our countries cultures with Americans. Learning about and intregrating into a new culture has been one of the highlights of this journey for me. I have so much appreciation and curiosity about other countries cultures and that goes beyond just traveling to their country. Couchsurfing gives me the opportunity to meet locals who can share their customs and culture with me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving the comfort of my hometown, family and friends and making a commitment to live in a foreign country where I didn't know the language. Before coming to Ukraine I had never left the United Stated before. Now I have the "travel bug" and know that I will never stop traveling once I go back to America.
