About Me

I am from south of Brazil and recently moved to Istanbul, Turkey, to study Architecture. I have also studied Gastronomy before and I'm very passionate about food in general, it plays a big role in my life and I spend quite some time thinking about it, planning meals, checking good restaurants, interesting dishes, dinner ideas, nutrition facts etc. I am not very athletic but I'm trying lately to be more active and hopefully start a habit out of it (my current goal is couch to 5k!). Otherwise, in my free time I watch as many series and I can and try to find hobbies, which usually I will obsess over for a couple weeks and I forget about them later (hey there html, knitting, calligraphy......). Also I spend more time than I'd like to admit reading news and news comment section, but I just think is sooo interesting to see all these different opinions and even something that are absurd to me (some even plain wrong), but I'm amazed to see how much there is outside of my "social bubble".
I think traveling is fascinating and I feel very lucky to be able to do it every once in a while. I deeply admire people who are backpackers and somehow wing it around in these wonderful adventures, I wish I will have that courage some day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first joined couchsurfing some years ago when a friend introduced it to me as a travelers social network. At the time I was still living with my parents and since my city was not too popular as a touristic destination I kind of forgot about it for a while (also I was not planning on going anywhere). Recently I joined a facebook group with similar culture as couchsurfing where I see so much support amongst travelers and so many precious tips that it made me want to try to be more active on the website. So far I'm mostly looking for meetups around Istanbul and so to explore more of this city I recently moved to, but that I haven't been around so much so far (I will blame Istanbul's rainy rainy winter for this). I will be happy to tour around with some fellow travelers and maybe show you some of my favorite places and foods :D

Interests

I think I mostly covered this on about me section because for me they just seem so related??? Anyway if I'm traveling somewhere what I am mostly interested in would be in having a less touristic perspective (especially regarding the fooood), I want to get to know a bit of what is daily life, not just the weekend-see sighting tourist life. In the city I am currently living I'm interested in seeing some of these sights that I have ignored because I sometimes get so absorbed into my daily life. Also, my goal is to find those secret gem places.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is the worst question for me! Of course I have songs I love but mostly it will be a seasonal thing and at some point I just get over after listening to it around 965439 times. Also I'm very very eclectic and can easily have a playlist including brazilian funk, Pink Floyd, Beyonce and some cumbia. I have a soft spot for latin american music, whichever style. As for movies and books I hardly watch or read something more than once and so I always feel a bit weird choosing a favorite since even the ones I like the most I probably wouldn't read/watch again. But as genres I prefer comedy, absurd comedy, animations, real-life based and adventure for movies (I just cannot stand action ones with lots of shooting and car chasing or horror). As for books I am still trying to find what the young-adult me prefers, I used to absolutely love fiction when younger but now Im finding myself more attracted to history and social aspects.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess moving to Turkey speaking only hello and thank you was pretty amazingly courageous (or stupid) and I sometimes still question how I managed to get myself here. Nonetheless, the experience so far is great :)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are in Turkey for a few days I can teach some words and phrases to get by (keep in mind I am myself still learning!), also (ingredients permitting) I will be happy to teach a brazilian recipe or just cook something together or even just show you a nice restaurant around! Also if you want to practice your portuguese (long shot?) I'm all in for it. I'd basically like to learn about anything really, from what you eat, what you wear, what you do, what abilities you have as I mentioned before I'm just fascinated by different people with different backgrounds and their views on life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I guess this depends of course from host to host, but I guess we can just all agree on food and I'd be happy to cook or bake some treats for us. I can help organizing the house or so, I'm quite good and efficient at it. Also I think I am good company for chatting, walking around and going out.
