About Me

Hi!
I'm Beatriz but just call me Betty. I moved to Havana recently and became a tour guide here.

I'm very good at talking non-stop irl but talking about myself online eludes me. Either way I feel like I need to slowly fill this up otherwise I might be confused for a fake account.

Some important first impressions:

My dog is the love of my life.

I'm Cuban, born, raised and still here sadly, hoping for a resolution to my entry permit to the US so I can hopefully restart my life closer to my family in Florida.

I am bilingual, I speak English and Spanish, I'm also trying my hand at French on Duolingo and Japanese will forever be a goal for me.

Even though I am an atheist I was raised a catholic, I went through my rebellious phase and now respect the religion even if I'm not a part of it anymore, that itself has led me to respect every other religion as well and I'm interested in their different beliefs and practices.

I also possess an art degree in Media Production so I sadly carry the curse of the cinema student, I have, maybe to any sane person's luck, gone full circle into loving normal movies and not just the hoity-toity connoisseur film.

Oh also, I'm very opinionated and usually come across as very confident in whatever I'm saying, I assure you I am open minded and willing to change my mind at the drop of a fact so do not fret, I just enjoy the mental stimulation.

If you care: Slytherin and ENTP.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet interesting people from all over the world!

Interests

My biggest hobby would be: I'm an otaku, I've consumed Japanese culture since 2008 so I grew up with it and I'm not letting go any time soon, is part of my identity now. I'll share my myanimelist profile here if you want to know more about that aspect of my life: https://myanimelist.net/profile/B707

I've also been fascinated by online spaces since 2016 when I first surfed the world wide web (long story there feel free to ask), so I like to keep up with online discourse as I have plenty of free time usually, I mostly dwell on YouTube and enjoy commentary videos, essays, podcasts and true crime.

Reading novels, but I'm trying to get into it again because I got used to short formats like manga or fanfiction. I want to tackle some of the classics, currently doing the Dracula Daily challenge.

Music, Movies, and Books

Time for some top 10's:

On my Spotify:

You will encounter things like; musical theater, Taylor Swift, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, EDEN, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mac Miller, Ice Nine Kills, Buck-Tick, Alec Benjamin, Rosalia, C. Tangana, DPR IAN, Ashnikko, Daft Punk, Epik High, Taeyeon, Akmu, Takahashi Yu, Angele, Gims, and a long etc.

On my letterboxd:

You will find horrible opinions on films and some of my favorites like; Spirited Away, Parasite, Mother!, Finding Nemo, Pulp Fiction, Girl Interrupted, Lalaland, Inside Out, Mad Max Fury Road, Jurassic Park, Oldboy, Perfect Blue, the Emperor's New Groove, Lady Vengeance, Stardust, Monster House, and a big etc.

My Goodreads account:

Is a sham because I can't remember half of what I've read in my youth, but some of my favourite books to re-read are; Interviews with a Vampire, Time of the Ghost, Steppenwolf, The Earth Trilogy, Desire to be punk, etc.

Will always be willing to marathon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scooby-Doo movies, Gravity Falls, Rick & Morty, Harry Potter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once hitchhiked my way halfway across the country to a music festival on the beach. Stayed there for a week sharing one room with 12 people. Unforgettable!
