Hi there! I’m Bex! I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I’m eager to see the world, try new things and meet amazing people! I’m an audio technician for theatre and live music back home, but am doing some travelling between college and getting deep into freelancing. I also have stage carpentry and diy experience. I love being creative, and learning about other people’s passions
I love connecting with people and sharing positive experiences! Dancing, making music, discussing concepts, and trading stories. I'm excited to explore the places I visit and try new activities, but am also happy to chill out, talk and laugh with the people around me. Communication and compassion are super important to me in all the relationships I create :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm travelling to make connections with others, and experience different ways of living to help me understand what kind of life I want to build for myself. I want to travel to exchange ideas, and gain new skills, perspectives and practices. I would love to couch surf to connect with people and learn about their local lifestyles.
I also want to reconnect with the outdoors. I have grown up visiting my grandparents’ cottage on the Rideau Lake every summer —swimming, canoeing, hiking, and driving a little tin motorboat. But school and freelance work has kept me in the city more and more. I can’t wait to meet you!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music so much!!! Finding new stuff, or playing it. I play some guitar and some drums. I listen to all sorts of genres, 50’s through 90’s and current stuff in rock, folk, surf and some country and punk.
Examples: Lime Cordiale, Sticky Fingers, Amyl and the Sniffers, Bruce Springsteen, The Black Crowes, Shakey Graves, Vulfpeck, Hozier, Pink Floyd

I was raised a big LOTR fan, and am a nerd for all sorts of sci-fi fantasy. But that’s only a portion of the films I love and can’t put a label on my genres and I love watching new stuff.
Examples: Almost Famous, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Clerks, Moulin Rouge, Tenet, Ms. Pettigrew Lives for a Day, anything Tarantino, anything Christopher Guest.

TV: Buffy, GOT, Sense8, Dark, Always Sunny, any of those episodic crime shows where a surly or sassy specialist helps some kind of law enforcement lol.

For books I’m a huge fan of Neil Gaiman. American Gods, Coraline, Graveyard book, Good Omens, but most of all the Sandman graphic novels!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer I mixed audio for bands at a music festival up in the arctic in Iqaluit, Northern Canada, in a giant circus tent in view of floating ice flows in the bay. I went to a bonfire in the tundra where the sun set only slightly at 11pm and rose at 2am.

Teach, Learn, Share

When I’m not travelling, I work as a freelance audio technician for theatre and live events. I also have theatre lighting, rigging, carpentry, and stage management experience. I can help plan, design and organize live music and other events, and many of my work skills are transferrable.

Writing, art, music, and photography are all areas that engage and inspire me. I would be happy to help with any creative endeavours. I am also a huge fan of DIY, crafts, and interior design. I have wood-shop and stage carpentry experience and am comfortable using power tools safely, for at-home builds or maintenance purposes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to help with music projects or diy creative projects. I’m also happy to help clean up or organize anything, I love making a space it’s best.

I also like to cook for people and try new recipes! I have several straightforward but delicious recipes from my college days in my repertoire and I’ve picked some stuff up in my travels. I also love trying new recipes for baked goods and sweets as I have a sweet tooth for sure. Either way I wash a mean dish and would be happy to help and take direction in a kitchen.
