About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see what's around the next corner.
ABOUT ME
I hate talking about myself so writing things like this are always an adventure. I'm usually pretty quiet, thoughtful and analytical. I like to think I'm moderately intelligent, but I'm sure others would argue that point, I have a dry sense of humor, and love a good discussion or debate. Generally, I'm pretty laid back, and like just going with the flow.
I've spent the better part of the last 15 years making other people's photographs look nice, About five years ago, at the tender age of 32, I decided I needed to find an escape from the cubicle, and started to take photography classes myself. I got hooked almost immediately and fell in love with what most people refer to as photojournalism, but I call documentary photography. I love telling people's stories.

PHILOSOPHY
Leave your corner of the world better than what you found it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am completely new to this, and to be honest, a little nervous. But the prospect of meeting different people certainly has it's appeal. Nothing gets you to learn about a place quicker than being embedded with a local.
Interests
Aside from photography, I am a music and movie junkie. I'm he guy to go to for all your obscure movie quote needs. I enjoy art, a good beer or wine, solid conversations.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: The Black Keys, QOTSA, NIN, Otis Spann, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Radiohead, pre-Fergie Black Eyed Peas
Movies: Some of the best movies I've seen lately are Children of Men and Michael Clayton, but I also love The Big Lebowski and Anchorman.
Books: I'm on a quest to reread books I was forced to read in High School. I'm interested in discovering if age, or at least reading voluntarily, will make me view the books any differently. So far I have Old Man and the Sea, The Great Gatsby and The Invisible man done, and I like the results.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- I went to Ghana to photograph a group of Missionaries from Iowa. Although I've lived in Iowa for most of my life, that was the first time I had ever stepped onto a farm.
- I spent a year photographing Presidential candidates as they were all trying desperately to win Iowa's caucus. I worked briefly as a photography for the Clinton campaign, and even had Senator Obama ask me how I thought he did in a debate.
- I spent a week in New Orleans on the first anniversary of Katrina, then returned for two weeks of Mardi Gras in 2008.
Teach, Learn, Share
After spending most of my life in it, I'm pretty darn good at Photoshop. When color correcting images, use adjustment layers so you can always go back if you don't like what you've done.
What do I want to learn? I'm going to leave that door open.
