About Me

Well, I'm 24, not the most talkative person but like connecting with people, getting to know them and sharing my journey.
I come from a family of musicians, my mother was a professional Indian Classical Singer, so I've been encouraged by them to follow music seriously as well, which I have.

I'm just finishing up my Master in Literature and thats another area that I'm passionate about.

I'm aware that I've been lucky to have been born in a family that doesn't pressurize me to follow other 'traditional' professions. They've been patient with me while I've been figuring out what it is that I want to pursue as a career. Traveling is an important part of that, and I've been lucky enough to have travelled a lot as a performer.

Music has become a profession for me in the past 5-6 years. I sing contemporary Western stuff, have trained in Western Classical Music and have travelled to Paris to perform in an opera, am learning the Sarod, an Indian Classical instrument and was chosen to perform on it in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Currently I teach singing in Delhi, have a recording studio here, and compose and play with my band. Listen to us here! : https://soundcloud.com/saurabhandbhanu

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people, connect with them and make friends. I would absolutely love to host people as well, and to show them around my city.

Interests

Music of course! Of course its more than an interest for me now.
Apart from that I love reading, writing, my course made sure of that.
I love going trekking in the Himalayas (its just an overnight journey from my place) and I make a few trips a year, to ski in winters, and trek in the summer.
Fooood! I don't cook, but love to try all kinds of stuff.
Love watching and playing football, table tennis, squash.

Music, Movies, and Books

I grew up listening to a lot of The Beatles and ABBA, then moved on to progressive rock stuff like Rush and Dream Theater, now to mellower music; John Mayer, Beck, The Staves to name a few. Esperanza Spalding, Snarky Puppy, Nat King Cole, Herbie Hancock. STING!!

Movies - Troy, Birdman, LOTR, Hobbit, Fight Club, The Pianist, The Prestige, Benjamin Button, Gone Girl, .......

Books - All of Marquez, Anna Karenina, HP series, Heart of Darkness, Kafka, Joyce....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had a mind-blowing trekking experience, in Kashmir, the river Zanskar freezes over for 2 months in winters, and one can walk on the river up the valley for about 10 days, going into another world altogether. Completely cut off from civilisation, harsh conditions, the high altitude and freezing temperatures. Brilliant experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Lots to share about my country and my experiences, and of course to learn the same about you. Especially interested in learning about music from around the globe, and I hope I can share my knowledge of Indian music with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Just hoping to create beautiful memories as I travel around, share my music and experiences.
