About Me

New to nomadism and excited about meeting people and exploring the world. I'm a voracious reader, wonderer, wanderer and conversationalist.

I like walking, the outdoors, the interior of a book, the process of writing and, above all, I love learning.

I'm from Yorkshire, spent my youth interested in art and my formative years in a long dance with words. I'm hoping to fill this new age of confidence with adventures aplenty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think places are built by the people that live there, and so no experience of a place is complete without meeting some of its inhabitants.

This platform seems to attract people whose curiosity matches or outstrips my own and that's rare indeed. Friendships form quickly in such an open community - I think it's beautiful and being here (being in the world, meeting couchsurfers) is the closest I've ever felt to a homecoming.

Music, Movies, and Books

Top movies, in no order: a History of Violence; Beasts of the Southern Wilds; Amelie; Life of Brian: Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Books - that really has to be a conversation, there are so many that I love. Some writers I return to again and again are Alice Walker, John Berger, Sarah Hall, Jon McGregor, Ali Smith, Max Porter, Maggie Nelson, Kathleen Alcott

I'm promiscuous when it comes to music - grew up with glam rock parents, had a jungle phase, refused to listen to anything without guitar, then discovered bass, now eclectically delighted, especially seeing live performance. Favourite find of 2021: Dua Saleh

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made a living library - the Apiary - in a learning house upstate New York.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been cooking mainly vegetarian and vegan recipes for some years - we can explore recipes and tastes together.

I'm a patient listener and though untrained, I can help with English language.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to be a sous - vegetable preparation is an especial delight of mine.

Enthusiasm for reading and books - very likely I can offer a recommendation.

Attention to detail - I'm good at copywriting and proofreading, so can help with whatever needs another set of eyes.
