Overview
About Me
Hopelessly in love with adventure and hoping to eat, drink, and walk my way through much of the world in the next few years. I'm an avid people watcher and love nothing more than swapping stories over coffee (which means tea because I’m actually allergic to coffee) or beers. Just looking to experience a variety of cultures and lifestyles.
I'm an optimist. I see the world full of opportunity, even in the shittiest of situations. Laughter is the most essential thing to me after oxygen and water. I love to laugh and to make others laugh. My life is highly entertaining - I'm one of those this-would-only-happen-to-you people - so it works out. I love telling stories and hearing stories!
I love climbing trees even though I am afraid of heights…coming down is never a good time. Anything involving the outdoors touches me in a spiritual way I have never felt…it is so easy to get carried away walking through a park or hiking or at the beach or even looking up at the stars. I could ride my bike for hours and hours just watching the light change and basking in the breeze.
I'm a massive foodie and will spend hours upon hours in the kitchen throwing together random stuff. Luckily I have a pretty good palate. I love to feed guests I am hosting or cook for my hosts, so I hope that's okay! I love to learn about new kinds of cuisine and would love nothing more than to travel the world taking cooking/baking classes. I also have a massive sweet tooth, so dessert is always a thing. I recently launched my own small catering business, Eat Pretty Charcuterie, which I hope to eventually expand into a full catering service for weddings.
I'm a writer as well - currently writing a 4-part cookbook series, a 200-book children's series about travel and culture, a 5-part psychology journal series, a history book, and a few other random projects. Also a very big fan of theatre and music. I was a stage manager for 15 years before the pandemic. Musicals are my favorite.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I value experiences over possessions. Organized trips and touristy areas have never appealed to me - I like walking around like a local and eating at their favorite places and taking in the sunset for a park or view spot in the city. I feel like social media inundates you with the places you're "supposed" to go and what a vacation looks like to be considered a success, and I hate that. While I'd like see some of those places, I'd prefer to see it from a local's perspective, with my phone/camera staying firmly put away. Or even better, finding undiscovered parts of a country or place.
The most important thing about traveling the world is learning to love each city for its own character and flavor. What better way to learn than from people who love their homes so much that they have opened them and their hearts to strangers. I would much rather spend every cent and more that I would have on a hotel cooking for hosts or treating them to drinks as we exchange stories and life experiences.
