ABOUT ME

I love new people and places. I traveled as a child a great deal, my mother is from Germany. I have lived all over the US at this point but find my home is in Portland Oregon. I am not into the usual American pursuits. I don't own a television. I am not defined by the things I buy at all. Most of my time is spent playing music, dancing, eating good meals with friends or adventuring.

PHILOSOPHY

Being a good person means you are actively good not just passively not doing bad things.

I want to stay with some people in Italy, Germany Sweden and Estonia and other spots while I am on my mission to find a nyckelharpa and can't wait to host people here in Oregon when I return.

I love local music and street music. I am a musician so full half of what I love is based on what I want to learn. The other half is meaningful or you can dance to it. Bands I listen often of late include Man Man, Gogol Bordello, Sussan Deyhim, Curtis Eller, Balkan Beat Box, Niyaz, Corvus Corax and Opium Jukebox's tribute to Black Sabbath and Primus. I also like Prince, Michael Jackson, Destiny's Child, and Nina Hagen. The Magnetic Fields, Marvin Gaye, Armenian music, Turkish music, Balkan music, and all things Alan Lomax have a special place in my heart. I read constantly. I am a huge fan of science writing if not science fiction with notable exceptions. I love well written biographies (Ghengis Khan to Harriet Tubman to Albert Einstein) Zora Neale Hurston, Alice Walker, Edwidge Danicat, Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, JK Rowling, Aaron McGruder, Enki Bilal, Terry Prachett, Mike Mignola, Thomas Ligotti, Edward Gorey, Caleb Carr, Criag Ferguson, Arundhati Roy, Michael Chabon, J.S. Foer, Anthony Trollope, John Galsworthy, Gogol, Michaeal Pollan, Amy Gooodman, Tony Attwood, Temple Grandin, Benjamin Wolley, Allison Weir, Frances Yates, Bill Whitcomb, Catherine Yronwode, Howard Zinn, Rebbecca Wood, Ianto Evans, Joseph Campbell, and any book about medicine, herbs, crafts, alternative housebuilding, art or music. I enjoy reading reference books and themed encyclopedias.

When I was working as a nurse a woman's husband died and donated his organs to the donor program. She was so distraught for so long. Years later I met the widow again with her new partner. He was 10 years her junior and she was so happy. They had met in another state and returned to my area together. I asked her what attracted her to him and vice versa. She said "his eyes." He said he couldn't look away from her. Unknown to them when they met her new partner was the man that had received her first husbands eyes.
