About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn all I can from wherever I can.
ABOUT ME
I am a retired professional speaker who spends his time keeping fit, reading books, programming computers and preparing for my next bicycle tour. I also am a volunteer docent at Alcatraz island.
I have been a vegetarian (no meat, fish, or fowl) for over 40 years.
PHILOSOPHY
My personal ethic is to try and limit my impact on the environment and to live a life as congruent with my beliefs as I can.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had dozens of couchsurfing interactions and find them to be one of the best parts of the bicycle tours that I take. Often, I change my biking routes so I can spend the night with someone I met on couchsurfing!
Interests
Bicycling touring, reading, exploring ideas, cooking, eating, website development.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Rock, Jazz (Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, etc), Classical (Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, most Russians)
Books: I read/listen to about 50 books a year, virtually all non-fiction. Books that have had an impact: Will Durant's "The Story of Civilization" (all 11 volumes), Becker's "Escape from Evil", "The Siege of Mecca"
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've toured on a bicycle throughout France, Wales, Scotland, Canada, England, Northern Italy, Switzerland, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Texas, California, Montana and up the Eastern Seaboard from Charleston, SC to Maine.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a docent at Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. I can tell stories all night about it and answer pretty much any questions someone may have about it.
