About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Play any music with anyone anytime and anywhere I can
ABOUT ME
Most of my time is taken up with music. I practice a lot. Mostly guitar. Mostly jazz. Some classical guitar, rock, upright/electric bass, piano, mandolin, banjo, trombone, trumpet, vibraphone, and an assortment of other instruments I'm not good enough at to name. I want to travel the world playing music. I wouldn't mind making some money doing so, but mostly so I could reinvest the money to do it more. I grew up in a farming christian family. I have become agnostic.
PHILOSOPHY
I strive to dissolve any philosophy that I find myself clinging to. I do try to base my actions in love. Seeming contradictions are my greatest joys.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So far, I'm new to the CS community and haven't participated except loaning my couch and moral support to the Utah CS ambassador (and one of my best friends). I also went to a CS social once. Want to get involved more.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music.
I'll never outgrow 90s rock. I listen to and play as much jazz as I can - Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, Adam Rogers, Corey Christiansen, Ornette Coleman, Medeski Martin and Wood, Ben Allison, Bill Evans, Jim Hall, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Chris Potter, Cannonball Adderly, Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Dave Douglas, Sonny Rollins, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Pete Bernstein, John Zorn, Jeff Ballard, Vic Juris, Nat King Cole, Wayne Shorter. I dig Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Brouwer, Cage, Reich, Crumb, Stockhausen, and other various classical cats. My wife shows me a lot of other good current stuff.
Movies.
Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson. Amelie, 8 1/2, Y Tu Mama Tambien. Koyaanisqatsi.
Books.
Naked Lunch. Slaugherhouse 5. Catch 22. The Unbearable Lightness of Being. A Pligrim at Tinker Creek. Miles (Autobiography). The Tripod Trilogy. Ethnomusicology (by Nettl - I recommend every musician read this). The Little Prince. The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
On a midnight walk I saw light dance on the surface of a windy lake in Logan, UT once. Something gifted me the ability to forget my cognitive awareness of the situation and the sight became pure beauty.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can't do it on demand. Things come when they are needed. Maybe that's my lesson . . .
