About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel, experience all life has to offer, meet new people, and hopefully while doing so, learn enough to eventually put something meaningful in this box...

ABOUT ME

I'm one of the few Arizona natives in their 30's.

I tried College straight out of high school, didn't like it, and then I fell in love with making sushi. I've been a chef for 10+ years now and it has provided me with AMAZING freedoms to travel during slow seasons. Now, I'm back at ASU for round two and I'm loving it - just one more year till graduation!

I don't use this community for a 'free place to stay', the knowledge sharing between hosts and surfers has kept me active and is something I will always cherish. I like to smile, laugh, and enjoy my time on this planet, and I love when I meet people who share that outlook.

PHILOSOPHY

The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. ~St. Augustine

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As much as I can. I have had nothing but good experiences hosting so far and the surfing I've been able to do has introduced me to some incredible people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted a few people... Surfed with a few people... Excited to do more of both :-)

Interests

Well, cooking and eating are definitely #1. The rest of my time is spent working (most think that a bad thing, luckily I don't ;-), hiking wherever possible, playing disc golf, swimming or laying by the pool (when the weather is reasonable), and taking the time to enjoy those rare lazy days doing next to nothing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Hmm, I'll play this like 'desert island'
Here's my top 5 in each category:

Movies:
Snatch
Super Troopers
Boondock Saints (however, 2 Blows!!!)
The Matrix - ONLY the original!!!
Star Wars - Likewise... For the series

Music:
Buddy Guy

Joe Satriani

Books:
I'm a cookbook whore. (Plus, maybe I could find it useful if I really was on a desert island. heh)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's impossible to name just one... I've:

Attended the running of the bulls in Pamplona
Gazed at the stars on a deserted beach on Kauai
Hiked the Grand Canyon in flip flops
Celebrated with an entire city of 'soccer' fans in Firenze (randomly...)
Resisted the urge to become a member of facebook (kind of...)
Jumped off a 30 foot cliff at Lake Tahoe
Jumped out of a plane on the North Shore of Oahu
Stood on the field of Camp Nou
Backpacked the Juan de Fuca trail in Vancouver Island, BC
Paid for gas by collecting beer bottles in Mexico for money to the boarder
Joined and participated in CS!

Teach, Learn, Share

I think these quotes sum me up pretty well:

Teach: One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important. ~?
- I make sushi. Of course I love this quote!

Learn: Get over the idea that only children should spend their time in study. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life. ~Henry L. Doherty
- Exactly...

Share: Ever wonder about those people who spend $2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward. ~George Carlin
-LOL! Although $2 for a BIG bottle when tap water is undrinkable is a must... i.e. Turkey, Bulgeria, Romania, Slovakia

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation! This community isn't about a free place to stay while traveling. I'ts about meeting fellow travelers who share similar interests and learning from those stories. Therefore, I always try and spend time over food, a beer, a coffee, or whatever with hosts/surfers to learn their stories and share my experiences while gathering knowledge from theirs.

Smiles! I always try to be a happy guy (I get paid to make food for a living, how can I not be :) Emotion is contagious, so we'll definitely be able to share a few laughs.
