About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Hitting the road and staying there for a while
ABOUT ME
I get to travel alot with my work and and spend most of my spare time on the move exploring new places. I enjoy keeping active as I move so get stuck into whatever sports I can - climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, running, swimming, surfing - almost anything really.
PHILOSOPHY
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
A Mark Twain quote but can definitely relate to the sentiment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
New to the whole CS thing after being recommended by a friend. Keen to meet new interesting people and do interesting stuff - get an immersive view on the places I visit.
When I get settled I'm keen to host others and broaden my spectrum of friends. I work with alot of different nationalities and have friends from all over the world so find the spectrum of outlooks and cultures I encounter along the way pretty inspiring.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've been to a couple of Couch Surfing meets in Sydney and Cape Town whilst traveling. Not surfed yet but hoping to change that soon. Hosting is definitely something I'd like to do in the future.

Music, Movies, and Books
I mean come on - who doesn't like movies, music or books?!? I like almost anything of substance I guess, stuff that means something, no fluff. Jim Jarmusch, Shane Meadows, Danny Boyle, Kevin Smith......
Music-wise my tastes are super broad. I grew up on electronic music - house, techno, electro etc - but find myself listening to alot more 'band' music these days - favourites include indie bands like The Leisure Society, The Strange Death of Liberal England, Wild Beasts, The Cure, metal like Melvins, Helmet, Quicksand, Unsane, Pelican through to folkier stuff like Bon Iver, Tuung, Stornoway.
Read alot, especially with working at sea, big fan classic literature, especially American authors like Steinbeck and Hemingway. Always have afew books with me on my travels to swap.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Working at sea I'm kind of lucky in that I get to see alot of cool things pretty regularly - whales, dolphins, waterspouts, amazing sunrises/sunsets, incredible storms.
Travelling-wise El Chorro gorge in Southern Spain pretty much blew me away. Most of my skydiving experiences have blown my mind too - blasting through cloud cover at 120mph will do that!
Teach, Learn, Share
I feel I've experienced a fair bit in my life so far and always happy to share things like that. Always got a bit of advice on cool places to check out in random towns and cities around the world. Pretty adept with bikes as I ride so much - if you got a knackered bike and need it fixing I'm up to the job. If you really, really want to be bored I can sit you down and explain the various acoustic principles involved in seismic surveying though you'll have to keep me from nodding off!
