About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm currently in campaign mode to build for a 5000-mile bicycle tour throughout all of Texas & Louisiana, to be carried out from Jan-Apr, 2012; 15% of all gross revenues will go to Livestrong, Lance Armstrong's anti-cancer foundation based here in Austin.

ABOUT ME

I've got self-details strewn all over this profile description...in this space, here's my general bicycle travel dream-mission:

i'm very likely to be on the road (in Oct. 2013) for the 3rd time since New Year's 2012 to bicycle above & beyond the 5000 mi. i biked all over TX & La. and the 1972 mi. i biked all over OK & KS for Livestrong (the worldwide cancer foundation based here in Austin), this time to continue the tour i discontinued in KS as cancer hit my family (happy to report the family member involved is much improved as of now) to the 3000 miles of states i'd meant to get to: MO, KY, TN & AR, 10/11-New Year's Eve 2013. I've fortunately been able to raise $1352 for Livestrong on my travels.

I plan on biking the rest of the 38,000 mi. of 48 states slowly but surely, 4 months on/off...the current dream:

Oct-Dec: Kansas City KS-MO-KY-TN-AR

May-Aug 2014: North Central States

Jan-Apr 2015: Southeast States

Sep-Dec 2015: East Central States

May-Aug 2016: Northeast States

Jan-Apr 2017: Southwest States

Sep-Dec 2017: West Central States

May-Aug 2018: Northwest States

PHILOSOPHY

Please see field above. Or contact me, and I'd gladly elaborate further.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to meet many new people within the context of couchsurfing and I hope to return the favor to those seeking accommodations whenever it's at all possible for me to do so; I love to meet new people of all kinds. My hostel & couchsurfing experiences are some of the best & most positive I've ever had.

In general, I'm an extremely relaxed guy who's maybe too compassionate for his own good, but I'm very diligent & reliable and I put my all into whatever I do. I'm definitely a progressive in a major way politically/philosophically/spiritually/etc.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My couchsurfing experiences have been overwhelmingly positive over & over again, and they've run the gamut from adventurously rustic camping offered by some hosts all the way to some of the most overly comfy spaces & overly delicious foods i've ever experienced.

I've absolutely loved the wild, wide-ranging diversity of positive people whom i've encountered couchsurfing, magnificent.

Interests

drawing, writing, the offbeat, the beautiful, the unconventional, the kind, the generous, the wondrous, the grassroots that give rise to most things truly important, hacky sack is a major core throughout my life, especially my youth when I played in many tournaments. I have a deep desire to see kindness, justice & perpetuated across the universe, in all sorts of ways.

Music, Movies, and Books

I appreciate any form of art/expression that's real...that goes beyond artifice...that's coming from guts & souls...that comes from goodwill & a desire for more of it...something that has a very independently generated path & direction

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are lots of things in my not-so-traditionally-exciting life. The positive & negative things that stand out are both bike trips. One was in May 1997, from New Orleans to Northeast Texas, about 500 miles in a week. The other bike trip was when I evacuated New Orleans from Katrina, getting to Baton Rouge in one day. That was intense, in good & some very bad ways. My bike evacuation was even mentioned in The Guardian, the major UK paper. Those bike trips tend to rise to the top. Other earlier ones was finishing 2nd to my hacky sack hero, the world record holder, at the '88 US Open. Another hacky sack moment that stands out is finishing 10th in the world in speed-kicking. Hacky sack & bikes have been such major parts of my life, which is why the big moments seem to involve one or the other of them.

Holler at me anytime and i'd gladly share ultra-extraordinary experiences i've had couchsurfing along 7000 bicycle miles of journeys in 2012!

Teach, Learn, Share

The people I described above...those are especially the people who I love to teach (though I like to try to teach those who may have wildly different perspectives than I), learn from (I always remain open to others' perspectives and willing to listen, closely) & share with.
