ABOUT ME
Hey guys!
I'm Nils, a social sciences researcher who grew up in Belgium. Travelling and getting to know other cultures are my two greatest passions, and if they were to have a baby together, it would be couchsurfing.
I'm super outgoing and I love learning and doing wacky stuff. If you've got a weird talent, then I want to steal it. If you've got a strange habbit, then I wan to watch it. And most of all... If you've got weird food, then I MUST taste it.
I also love sharing some of my own culture by cooking or by telling stories, I think Belgium is a much overlooked wonder that people should discover!
PHILOSOPHY
The smurfs will one day smurf the world!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've attended plenty of meetings in Belgium and New Zealand. Me and my flatmates also opened up a CS house during the 7 months that I lived in New Zealand. And I loved it... Never a dull moment, so many new ideas and friendships!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So many good ones... some of the surfers that I hosted in New Zealand became my good friends there, and we ended up doing tons of roadtrips together.
I also surfed in the States and Philippines, which was by far the best way to meet locals!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love listening to all sorts of music, my mood changes so fast! But in general I seem to gear towards indie music and movies! Not cause of some principle, but indie sounds and movies remind me of the music that I grew up with in Belgium. Aaaah nostalgia?
Musical highlights would be Vampire weekend, Eels, Absynthe minded, Das Pop, Soulwax and Ozark Henry.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Travelling in Cameroon for a moth, getting weird looks and names, being called "les Chinois!", swimming in a volcano lake and cruising through a sugar cane field at midnight
Travelling the Philippines for a month, still getting weird looks and names, being called "Yo Joe wassup?!', hiking through rice terraces and swimming in waterfalls.
Living in New Zealand for a 7 months, starting my own CS house, learning traditional and modern poi, wildcamping on beaches on Christmas, swimming in caves and climbing mountains.
Teach, Learn, Share
If anyone is interested in an explanation of the Belgian political situation, I am your man!
If you want a Belgian beer music guide, I am even more so your man!
I was also taught poi (maori dance form) by the awesome fire spinner Patrick Ablir in New Zealand, so I can teach you some of that too (be aware though, I'm a beginner!)
I can also give language lessons in Dutch, French and English.
But above all, I can teach you some awesome recipes from all over the world!
