About Me

I'm a recently returned Peace Corps Volunteer, who spent the last two years living and working in the East region of Cameroon as a Youth Development PCV. I'm now living in the Washington, DC area, but will be in Israel starting at the beginning of February (and might be there for up to 3 months).

Whenever I have down time, I'll think about my next adventure and spend hours planning hypothetical trips to unique and exotic places.

I do not like saying no to a new experience. Put a strange plate of food in front of me and I'll be the first person to try it. Some days I'll be ready to party until the sun comes up, and other days I'd want nothing more than sitting and talking with old and new friends and acquaintances.

I love the outdoors and all the activities that go along with them. Bike riding, hiking, swimming, and kayaking are always focal points to my vacations and weekends. However, I am also drawn to cities and all the opportunities they afford. I can spend hours in a good bookstore, a full day at a museum, and I will never say no to seeing a play, musical or concert. No matter where I am, I'll try to find a balance between nature and culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I always love meeting new people and making new friends. Couchsurfing seems like an amazing network of interesting people from all over the world, and I'm very excited to be a part of it! I have so much fun striking up conversation and gathering new ideas and perspectives from anyone and everyone.

Once I finish my Peace Corps service, I'll be travelling in East Africa with two close friends, and we would love to meet other CSers along the way. I will then be up in Europe travelling with my brother, and our main interests are seeing new places from a local perspective.

Music, Movies, and Books

Here are only a few of a long list of movies I love: The Emperor's New Groove, Best in Show, Wet Hot American Summer, Big Fish, Moulin Rouge, Grosse Pointe Blank, Life is Beautiful, The Godfather, anything by Wes Anderson and David Fincher. There's so much more that I'll need to add.

My taste in music is just as eclectic as my movie preferences. I love James Taylor, Carol King, Bob Dylan, and the less famous but still incredible Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Eddie from Ohio, The Avett Brothers and so much more. I can listen to American folk music any day (both old and contemporary), then jam to String Cheese Incident, Griz, Gramatik, Big Gigantic and other electronic music the next minute. I can sing along to all the current Cameroonian and Nigerian hits because I hear them dozens of times a day from 5 am to midnight. The Idan Raichel Project was one of the best concerts I've ever been to- I love how he gathers incredible musicians from all over the world and they perform to promote peace. I'll always be a fan of a cappella music after having been a part of a Jewish a cappella group for 4 years.

Books and authors: Bill Bryson, David Sedaris, Oliver Sacks, Kurt Vonnegut, The Alchemist, The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Shakespeare, Malcolm Gladwell, Paul Theroux, A Song of Ice and Fire...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently went camping in the super remote south-eastern corner of Cameroon deep in the Congo River Basin. The best moment was watching a family of 13 wild gorillas eat and play right in front of us for 2 hours. It was an experience I will never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

In Abong-Mbang, I can teach you how to eat the entire fish, bones and all, and we'll be able to find cold beers even if electricity has been cut for over a week.
