About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Discovering Istanbul because we hear it's awesome!
ABOUT ME
We're a married couple working in the nonprofit sector and we're ready to take a break to travel again!
We left Japan a few years ago after teaching there for two years, and we haven't traveled internationally since. We took road trips around the American South and the American West, but we've been wanting to explore outside the country again. We chose Istanbul because we heard it was one of the most amazing cities in the world, and it's also totally different from anywhere we've been.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We haven't much in the past couple of years, but we surfed through the American south and made friends with a couchsurfer visiting from Japan.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We were hosted by three amazing couchsurfing hosts on our trip through the American South. We wish we'd known about couchsurfing when we were traveling in Asia! We also hung out with a cool girl from Japan who was visiting Minneapolis for a while and we're still in contact.
Interests
Music, beer, food, social justice, language (big time on Colin's part, he was a Linguistics major), good conversation, hidden gems, unicorns, irony.

Music, Movies, and Books
One or both of us like the following. You'll just have to guess who!
Movies: I Heart Huckabees, Happiness of the Katakuris, Ghostbusters, Labyrinth, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Dr. Strangelove, In the Mood for Love
Music: A lot of things! We'll update this later when we decide what we want you to think of us. Colin used to play in a folk band with his brother and cousin that did original music as well as covers and medleys of Kesha, Robyn, and Beyonce songs.
Books: (We differ too much here, so I'll have to divide us)
Cassie: Song of Solomon (Toni Morrison), Middlesex, The Trial, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Yiddish Policeman's Union
Colin: The Baroque Cycle, Anathem, Sirens of Titan, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Maus
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Visited Angor Wat.
Also, Cassie is way too proud of the fact that she won a drunk spelling bee at a bar.
Teach, Learn, Share
Colin is very musical and plays guitar and other things, though he doesn't have much formal training.
Cassie is pretty knowledgeable about US poverty policy, but that's a bit of a downer. Still, she has stories and can occasionally be coaxed into a rewarding conversation. Also, we both speak (rusty) Japanese, so if you want to practice that or something. Yeah.
Countries I’ve Visited
Cambodia, China, Laos, South Korea, Thailand
Countries I’ve Lived In
Czech Republic, Japan, United States
