About Me

Hi, currently I can't offer a place to stay however, I'd be glad to show you around. :)

I'm an interior architect from Turkey. My name is Bilge, if you`re confused by pronounciation, you can call me Billie, as most of my international friends do. :) I was born and raised in Turkey but additional to that, so far I've lived in Gdańsk, Poland for erasmus program, shortly in Italy for a masters program(which I ditched) and now I live and work here in Germany in a constructon branch. Call me a 'nowhere girl', it`s hard to feel an attachment to a place for me. I'm openminded, passionate about traveling, learning about cultures, meeting new people from all around the world. I stitch little stuffed animals, embroider skeletons and crochet bigger stuffed animals when I`m bored of my unproductive self at home. I`m also a newbie self-taught ceramicist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, obviously I love travelling. And let me tell you, there is nothing better than seeing a new city with a local. I'm very happy that I tested this and I hereby confirm. I know it sounds out of a thriller movie to trust someone you met on the internet but once you meet like-minded individuals, CS is addictive and essential.

To me couchsurfing is to make friends, get to know new people and meet your possible bestie on the way. As of many couchsurfers are after, making friends all over the world is one of my big dreams, so I appreciate your help making it possible!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to think I'm openminded when it comes to music as well, I guess I don't have anything against any genres. So I believe you can tell that my music preferences are quite eclectic. I listen anything and everything, totally up to my mood. Though I seriously don`t understand German Rap and people who like German Rap. No offense, it`s not you guys, it`s me. :D
About books, I especially like detective stories and horror fiction(who doesn't like a bit of a gothic romance, right?:)) so Edgar Allan Poe and HP Lovecraft are my comfort authors. Though my possible number one favorite is The Red Book by Carl Gustav Jung. So you can guess that my head is all over the place when I'm picking what I'm going to read next, and I always appreciate some recommendations on foreigner authors, if you're kind enough to share your favorite local author(obviously ones with available English translation are highly preferred).
Movie wise, I own a Netflix account, and nowadays I mostly watch and rewatch the series I`ve seen a part and loved already. I like a good gothic horror tho, ghost love stories are probably my fave. I was a big fan of Ville Valo during teenage years, could you guess?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some years ago, when I was searching for a host in Gothenburg, Peter reached and kindly offered hosting me. Now I remember when I checked his profile I saw this sentence under this section: “I am a cancer survivor at this shockingly young age.” Ironically about three years and bunch of troubling life decisions later, I am in the position to type the exact same sentence here. At the age of 23, I got diagnosed with cancer at 3rd stage, luckily with the help of an aggressive chemo therapy treatment and high hopes and thoughts, I survived.

Also I left family, friends and moved to a country to work without knowing the language. Not the most amazing thing, but slightly foolish for sure. And I‘m slow at learning German, I must admit.

Teach, Learn, Share

One thing worth learning about Turkish culture is, if you see a fruit packed tree in a garden of a private building and let's say that apple you really fancied a lot at that moment when you see that tree, it's totally okay to go and get one from the tree and you don't pay anything for that single apple because it's your eye's right to get that. Your welcome in advance! :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, given the access to kitchen, I believe I`m not a terrible cook. Living alone means I`ve been feeding myself for the past 6 years and you can clearly see I`m nowhere near starvation. Also one specific thing I`m always all for is Turkish breakfast, I highly encourage you to google, if you`re not familiar. Also, a small percentage of life experiences, possibly and probably (of course only If you`re interested).
