About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Work Break - Travelling in the Southern Hemisphere.
ABOUT ME
Irish guy - resident in the UK for the past 20+ years.
After nearly 30 years of unbroken work life, I made a decision to take a leave of absence from an IT career to re-charge the batteries, free my soul and to give myself some time to explore a part of the world that I have visited all too briefly before - and then mostly for business reasons.
Although there are a few more miles on the clock than when I previously took time out to travel, the free spirit remains largely intact. I've travelled widely for both business and pleasure over the years. My memories and impressions of places I've been have always been influenced far more by the people I've met than the landmarks I've seen - impressive and all as many of these are.
My 'plans' for this trip are very much in keeping with this and, whilst I'm not necessarily looking to impose myself on anybody from a hosting viewpoint (although I'm completely open to this also if somebody is kind enough to volunteer), I really look forward to meeting and spending times with locals in the places that I visit. This is what I value and I really appreciate any time people might spend with me in the coming weeks.
PHILOSOPHY
There are probably four quotes (coined by cleverer people than me) which sum up my philosophy of life.
The world should be a little bit better because a man has lived.
You can't hold a man down without staying down with him
Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
To those who do not count their life in years, but in how life has touched them in the past and how much it can hold in the future; -- Youth is forever.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
February / March 2013 will see me away from home for most of the time and I look forward to meeting any of the CS community in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia or New Zealand where I will spend time over this period.
Work has me travelling quite regularly and extensively so my opportunities to host are sporadic. However, when I'm in the UK I'm very happy to host or to show some travellers around the south of England.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
New to this site but have hosted several people from various countries over the years.
Interests
Sports freak, travelling, meeting/spending time with new people from various backgrounds and all the usual stuff. I would say I'm generally an easygoing, open-minded flexible individual without any particular hangups. Overall, a low maintenance person who can adapt to most situations.
