About Me

Hello I am Billy

6'4 strapping young man, with a winning smile and bags of charisma, at least thats what I tell myself.

I'm looking to move to Lisbon long term and trying to find a job, learn the language and get my own place.

Sport.
Very into my basketball, also an amateur long-distance runner and recently I've tried to get into the gym rings (Omplyic 2024 here I come). Can and will discuss the NBA at length with anyone willing to listen.

Night Life.
I do like to have a drink and enjoy the live music that the city has to offer.
Specifically Jazz, Soul, African and Latin for evening or house and techno for late-night parties are of interest to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After realising that I am not cut out for an office job, at least not yet, I decided that I wanted to work for myself so I started my own business with the main objective being, that I could work anywhere in the world. Then I decided I had to put my money where my mouth is and go start living out of the UK.

I want to make long term friends in Portugal make it feel like home and meet the local people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
Love my house and techno, but by god do I love a disco classic when I hear one. I have hips like Shakira so watch out for my dad dance moves. 60s Soul, 70s rock, 80 synthwave, 90 house etc. Give me a decade and I will know and love something you are into.

Films and TV.
For films, some of my favourites are Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Shutter Island, Batman the Darknight, The Usual Suspects, The Spaghetti Westerns.
For TV: Game of Thrones, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Dark, Magnum P.I. (The 80s personified)
Not a Film Buff by any means but I do enjoy film nights.

Books.
I like books that change your perspective on things and that you can learn from.
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari
Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
Freakonomics by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Big festival lover worked/gone to many in Europe and had a blast at them

Love international, Dekamantel, Dimensions, Houghton, Gottwood, Snowbombing, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Loves Saves the Day, Parklife, to name a few.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn Portuguese, French and Spanish also. But I am terrible at languages (dyslexic over here) so I think this is going to be a very long process and maybe I should just focus on one.

Its a dream to become like every European and be multi-lingual

If anyone out there is a professional Digital marketing/marketing and would like to take a young aspiring man eager to learn that would be a life-changer. Currently, self-teaching all these skills with the hopes of running a successful business in the near future

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation and company. I can talk about pretty much anything or at the very least listen. I'm very sociable so as long as I'm not extremely hungover or it's very early in the morning.

I have a mean mid-range jump shot if anyone wants to improve their basketball skills.

I think I can cook okay on occasion, but I only have English people to compare myself with and they aren't exactly famous for being the best in the kitchen.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
