About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make it through live having lived rather than simply existing. Preferably with a good soundtrack.

ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Billy. I'm from Philadelphia, but I currently live in the Bronx in New York City. I'm working on my Master's degree in Education to teach French, so I don't get to travel as much as I used to, or as much as I'd like. If you reach out while you're in town, I should be able to hang out, though!

PHILOSOPHY

Live!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed a few times while I was backpacking through Europe. I haven't been in one place long enough to really have surfers anywhere since I got back to the states, but soon enough I'd like to host people. For now, if you're coming to New York City and you'd like to meet up, shoot me a message and we can arrange something!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have stayed with CouchSurfers in:
Copenhagen, Denmark
Prague, Czech Republic
Rennes, France

visited 10 states (4.44%)

Interests

I love music. I love language, and the different ways that it evolves and how beautiful words can be. I love stumbling upon places that are completely different than where I am from.

Music, Movies, and Books

There are far too many books, albums and films that have made an impact on me for me to possibly list them all. I will do my best to sum it up here!

Music: Brand New, New Found Glory, The Replacements, The Gaslight Anthem, Saves the Day, Ryan Adams, anything David Bazan, American Football, The Menzingers, Sigur Ros, Descendents, and thousands of other bands. I have a pretty massive record collection and I studied jazz guitar while I was in high school. I can go on and on about music I love, and I am always trying to hear new things.

Movies: Life as a House, Lost in Translation, Closer, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adventureland, anything by Wes Anderson or Kevin Smith

Books: I suppose that beat writers have become kind of a cliche, but I enjoy reading Kerouac and Bukowski. I also enjoy Salinger (not just Catcher in the Rye, though!). I am always reading something new. The last book to really blow my mind was Chinese Takeout by Arthur Nersesian.

All of these would be great topics to kill time discussing in person. I can go on and on about the music, movies and books that I have a deep appreciation of.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got to spend time with my distant family in Ireland and stand on the land where my family lived until they left to come to the United States. Those are experiences that I will never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook (I have worked in kitchens for a few years) and play music.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Russian Federation, Scotland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
