About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Everyday I write the book."

ABOUT ME

I currently live in Portland, Oregon where I grew up. There is no doubt the city's reputation has inadvertently shaped my personality. I ride a bicycle, play music, write, and take photos. Still in my twenties, I might as well be retired.

When I was a little kid, my aunts and uncles found my mannerisms so strange and hilarious that they now refer to that period of my life as "The Joe Show". I live hoping that everything I do could be interesting enough that I could read a book about myself and be entertained.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Over the last year I became involved with warmshowers.org and hosted numerous cycle tourists in my lovely old home on Alberta St. Couchsurfing and Warmshowers have been my primary sources for places to stay and meet people in cities throughout the world when I travel. I have received incredible hospitality and built lasting friendships from using this site, and I continue to host people while I am settled.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I spent one full year riding my bicycle through the west coast of the United States and Central America, learning Spanish along the way and making friendships of a lifetime. I took advantage of couchsurfing profusely. I disconnected myself from everything I knew well, leaving all technology behind which forced me to live day to day. It sort of slapped me back to reality and wiped my slate clean. My experiences traveling by bicycle have been invaluable to me, as well as the hospitality I have received while traveling.
