To try and live life to the fullest by engaging with society in the most positve ways I can find. Mainly by being friendly and treating everyone with respect. I also want to be at peace with myself and those around me - this is the main mission for me

ABOUT ME

I am what is known as a "third culture kid", someone who as grown up in many parts of the world and affiliates with many cultures, in my case both eastern and western. I was born in Sri Lanka but left there at age 6months, next UK for 6 years where English became my first language, then an other period in Saudi Arabia where I went to an international school, and finally I landed in New Zealand in 1987, my adopted new home. New Zealand was really a defining part who I am today, particularly my time in Otago university and the friends I met there. I studied medicine as an undergraduate and have a had a convoluted courses as a doctor. My big bro and I started the backpacking circuit with Central america in 1999 and eventually ended up in UK working locums and travelling extensively around europe, and some of the middle east. There after I returned to NZ to do surgical training which i changed to Emergency Medicine half way through. Half way through this I decide that the time was ripe for me to travel to the country of my birth and origin, Sri Lanka and get to know where I came from. I came for one year and am still here 2 and half years on - loving the experience. Currently i'm doing a Phd in the emergency management of pesticide poisoing in rural sri lanka throught the Australian National University in Canberra!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have always like to help travellers out whenever I meet them because I have been the recipient of soooo soooo much generosity in my extensive travels aroudn the world. It used to amaze me how humanity was sometimes at it's best with so called strangers, and I always wanted to put back when I had the opportunity. I found out about CS only recently from a good friend who is originally Finish. She explained the concept, and i loved it!
