Dear CS-Community,
Couchsurfing is still a company so its aim is making money with its members. Couchsurfing in my eyes is more a movement and should be an association and definitely a non-profit organization. Not all has to be part and should be part of the economy. It is depending on its members, on ideals and values. People want to enable traveling and empower travelers, share couches and experiences with other people without any interest in making money but instead grow culturally, teach, learn and live. If you are interested in a philosophical background why knowledge and experience sharing are special goods, I can recommend Andre Gorz “L’immatériel”.
I fully understand the argument that also non-profit orgs needs to pay for servers, developers, management, infrastructure and that more users mean more costs. But that should be fully transparent and without aiming at money. And non-profit-orgs do not have the same costs as companies have, you get reductions, support from volunteers, people do not pay taxes on financial donations (e.g. in Germany) etc..

Anyway, I had a lot of great experiences with Couchsurfing and believe in Surfing Couches for free and meeting&sharing change the world. There is hopefully a chance for Couchsurfing as idea to survive and grow further, hopefully not as a company. I also joined BeWelcome, please contact me there @ seb_hh . I am enyoing people and nature. I am a deep water with funny moments. Sometimes a dreamer, reflected, sometimes critical especially regarding policies, but in General positive. I am working as a IT product specialist.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music and films can create very special moments. I like especially guitar sounds and indie rock. Sometimes I enjoy hearing some older punk bands but also some mainstream. And new stuff. Favorite radio station is Deutschlandfunk Nova.
I like small german cinemas with international films or smaller productions.
I love books. From classic books to new ones: Harper Lee ("to kill a mockingbird"), Irvin Yalom, Peter Bieri, Marie-Aude Murail, Amos Oz, David Benioff, Jonathan Safran Foer, Wolfgang Herrendorf...

Change book tipps; practice pilates or yoga, I like to improve my language-skills in Italian. Change guitar skills;
