About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Couchsurfing Makes the World Go 'Round

ABOUT
We are now four! Parenthood and family are very important to us; we feel privileged to give our children gifts of language, exposure to different cultures and peoples, and perspective on other walks of life.

From December of 2009 to September of 2010, we traveled the world. You can read about our travels at: http://honeyserviceyear.blogspot.com. Couchsurfing really defined so much of our long trip; we are glad to continue our couchsurfing karma and connnections!

Want to know about us? Just read along.......

We love to cook (N is a "retired" chef and makes some mean creole-influenced dishes). We are "off the beaten path" travelers (we enjoy getting to know the local culture, food, art, religion, etc.) and our travel style is our daily living style too. We are always game to check out new things and events and we love exploring our new city!

We own two backpacker hotels in Colombia, south america, and are oftentimes there. Couchsurfing hosting is not available in Colombia, but we'd love to see you there!

We hold beliefs of kindness, honesty, generosity, humility, compassion, and the importance of global and cultural awareness.

PHILOSOPHY

What time is it? It's NOW.

If you have to choose between luck or skill, choose luck every time.

Education is the finest gift we have - always strive to learn new things each day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have close friends in Maracaibo, Venezuela who are just crazy about couchsurfing. They recommended that we check it out.

As hotel owners ourselves (in Colombia), we love meeting kindred travelers, and strongly believe that the best way to understand and appreciate a new city and culture is to spend as much time as possible with the locals...or at least people who understand the scene better than we do!! Plus, the 'fresh eyes' of a visitor can oftentimes be a very special thing for hosts as well!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During our journey around the world, we stayed with couchsurfers in China, India, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, France, Morocco, and Ireland. Such incredible stories come with them all - come visit and we'll tell you all about them.

Best highlights include surfing with Rajib in Hindmotor, India: his mother cooked us spicy stew, and his father told us amazing stories of his life in India. Rajib was a kind, warm, and generous host.

Our host in Casablanca took us to the souk to eat camel, and our kind new friends in Haskovo, Bulgaria, taught us the in's and out's of hitchhiking in the Balkans.

Couchsurfing has introduced us to so many wonderful people all around the world, we look forward to crossing paths with you all again someday.

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

we are both voracious readers, brittany a bit more so than nathan. We both love gabriel garcia marquez and neruda. N is currently crazy about historical cookbooks and lonely planet china; B has recently re-discovered Vonnegut and is enamored.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are too many Amazing Things to describe here and most are top secret. Host us or visit with us and find out. We just moved a huge chicken coop down a thin alley and had to cut off parts of the eaves of the roofline to make it happen after dark - late night coop moves!

Teach, Learn, Share

Cooking (Creole, Cajun-American, Caribbean). Urban Planning and Community participation techniques. Paper Cutting (art and Design). Writing. English. Blogging. The art of frugal international travel!!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

We usually try to cook. Being from Louisiana this is our way of sharing our culture. Then we trade music, talk world peace, expand horizons, and ripple out the commonalities of the CS magic that is changing the world by building new tiny communities and positive host-guest interactions. Estamos una familia que nos gustamos al preparar comidas, disfrutan y intercambiar musica, busca soluciones para hacer paz mundialmente sobre caso por caso y chicos encontres.
