About Me

CURRENT MISSION I aim to stay around as long as possible and learn and experience as much as possible. ABOUT ME I moved from the high North to the not so high North ca. 40 years ago and live in the city of Stavanger on the southwestern tip of Norway. Here I have worked as a journalist in the regional newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad, most of the time covering business. From January 2009 I have been retired and devoted my time to my seriously ill, now late wife and to sailing. Eight years ago we moved from our roomy house and into a quite narrow flat. I am a devoted yachtsman, sailing both regattas as cruising in Norwegian waters, across the North Sea to the British Isles and in Dodecanese waters in Greece, now also in Croatia. PHILOSOPHY Trust other people and you gain trust.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

One great reason was that I decided to go to Moscow with my late wife and her sisters and husbands as company for their father when he turned 85. He had always loved Russia, but never been there, so we thought it was about time. Then the airline closed down the Moscow-route and we went to St. Petersburg instead, which I think was a good change, not least due to Elena and Yulia. All they did to make our stay eventful and pleasant made me want to "pay back" by inviting couchsurfers to be hosted by us.

Now i am receiving CS'ers in my home ansd sailboat, and hope to make good friends with as many as I can overcome. Using the sailing boat has turned out to become a good experience for both me, the yacht and not least, the surfers who have lived in it, as I understand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My late wife and I have always kept an open home, and have had visitors from all over the world, spanning from South Korea and Australia through Germany, England and France to the united States and South America. I find it fun and rewarding to make new acquaintances. As a widower I continue this tradition with great pleasure.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recommend Knut Hamsun, a nobel price awarded Norwegian author. Jo Nesbø is a contemporary internationally famous author who among other things writes crime novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been sailing a 44-foot fishing boat from Reykjavik, Iceland to Stavanger. That was an amazing experience.
