ABOUT ME

*After the recent site redesign, my response rate went from the high 80s to 42%. This is incorrect and I do my best to respond to all requests.

I'm Mat..my girlfriend and I have been living in Richmond for a few years. We have a 9 year old dog and a 4 month old puppy...both are small/medium dogs. We both work in the mental health/human services field. We don't have a set way of being or activity that describes us....we go to a lot of live music but we also just sit around and play video games or watch movies. It really varies.

I enjoy that a way of life we have grown into is spending time and money on experiences and not things.

We've been out of the Couchsurfing scene for a little while having gotten busy with work and life but we're hoping to both travel and host, especially now that we have a roomie house! *Disclaimer: there's a puppy (actively attacking the mouse while I attempt to update this)...this may deter you from wanting to stay here because she's only four months and hates her crate*

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I feel like it's something a lot of us do when we're younger but it seems to get less acceptable as we get older, which is just silly. Also, I have many a time wanted to go somewhere but the cost of lodging put a trip out of my reach. With so many of us having extra beds and bedrooms and awesome floorspace, it's crazy that more people don't couchsurf and have a better time in the area they're staying for less money.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first two experiences with CS were with a guy from Knoxville, TN and a girl from Baltimore, MD. Since then, I have seen each of them multiple other times including surfing, hosting, and even going on road trips. Those are the only times we've surfed but have hosted at least a dozen times.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

One of the best experiences of my life was at the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain, which ended with my friend and me being in the running of the bulls. We took a shuttle from Madrid, got there at around 9 pm and were told to be back at the bus stop at 10 am. For the next 12+ hours I don't think we sat down more than a few minutes total because the scene was the craziest, friendliest party I've ever seen. No celebration I've been to was ever so full of life. Being in the running was one of my biggest goals in Spain and one of the proudest moments of my life.

I also like to go to music festivals. 3 days (give or take) of music and camping in great places.

We got out to eat frequently with an emphasis on trying new places and avoiding large chains. We can suggest a good restaurant for any taste. We also go to events around the city a lot, especially live music, and can recommend some good activities.

I also like to cook myriad kinds of food. A lot of the times we eat out inspires my cooking at home so I can offer advice around the kitchen.
