About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to blend the randomness of travel, a career, and spending more time at home with friends and family in the area i love, basically i want my cake and to eat it to...

ABOUT ME

Active and easy going, I'd rater be doing something than talking about it. I love travel and the randomness of the open road, lifes exciting when you don't know whats going to happen and theres so many diferent things to do and see.
I thrive on learning new things, weather its food, engines, politics, cultures or religions. I want to know why things are the way they are.
Im pretty diplomatic and easy to get along with, everyone's ok untill proven otherwise.

I grew up on a small dary farm in the south east of South Australia, and as youngster loved working outside and with my hands. I left school early to start an aprenticeship as a fitter and turner. Got my ticket and hit the road. The last 5 yrs has been a bit of a blur, between working on minesites in queensland and western australia, saving for trips overseas and traveling. I just got my marine engineers ticket and am working on the 'Spirit of Tasmania 1' sailing between Melbourne and Devonport. Never one to sit still for to long, I like to keep busy and active. I'm pretty easy going and willing to have a go at just a about anything.

PHILOSOPHY

Get amungst it, just because no one else is keen dosn't mean you should miss out. Because good things don't come to those who wait, they come to those who are willing to have a go and make it happen.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I spend a lot of time helping out on the farm when Im home on leave and am more than happy to show people around the place, so if your keen you can role up your sleves and help out in the dairy, feeding calves, and with the cattle work.
Our local area is full of gems, while its off the beaten track, for those who love being active and outdoors, its a hidden paradise. With plenty of surfing, snorkeling, fishing, bush walking, camping and 4 wheel driving.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Ive only had a few couchsurfing experiences but the one that stands out was a dinner in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
It was awsome to hang out with fellow travelers, many of whom were living and teaching there, it gave me an insight to the place that you cant get from just passing through and seeing the sights. It was refreshing to hang out with people so easygoing, open minded and honest. A great time was had by all.

Interests

Travelling, its been over a year since my last trip and my feet are ichy as. India and greece are my 2 favorite countries so far, i'd love to go to africa and south america. so im just lapping up info about those places. I've also love to do a ski season somewhere and learn to snowboard and have my first snow fight, possibly japan.
I think i was a fish in a previous life. I love the water I'm a keen surfer and every chance it get im in the water, and for the days where its to windy iv'e got a kite surfer and have only had to be rescued by a jet ski once.... I enjoy working on the farm when im home, calvings the busiest but best time of year. I love snorkling and diving for abalone and cant wait to get my wreck divers scuba ticket. fire twirlings great fun but i don't get the chance oftern enough. motor bikes and trail riding is great fun to. Music, Movies, and Books

I'd rater pick up a good book than watch a movie, but any movie thats clever and makes u think I'll like. One flew over the cookoos nest, shawshank redemption, forrest gump, the castle (im a bit behind the times)
book wise: "Don't tell mum i work on the rigs, she thinks im a piano player in a whore house' and 'This is not a drill' by Paul Cater, 'The power of one, Tandia, Tommo and hawlk, Brother Fish and april fools day' and most of Bryce Courtneys work. Wilba Smith's the courtneys series. Tim Winton. The girl with the dragon tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Dead Aid by Dambrisa Moyo.
music wise, pub rock, folk, blues, pretty much anything that you can sing along to. except duf duf.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Where do you start, ive been so lucky...
Cycling throught the indian hymalaiers for 3 weeks with andy, Camping in snow and chi shops, and getting caught in a snow storm on the kumsin-lau pass and spending the night in a grompa at 4500m. Finaly seeing the Taj Mahal at dawn (I got bitten by a dog on my way down there the day before).
Woking in the greek islands for 5 months as a yatch mechanic for a holiday company. Then sailing a yatch around the caribbean for a few weeks with the same friends.
Egypt was alwasys on the list and seeing the pyramids was a dream come true, climbing mount siani and learning to scuba dive in the red sea was a bonus.
