About Me

Hi, my name is Blake and I hope you can get to know more about me than just this profile. I had plans to go to University to become a Social Studies teacher after High School but after a post-graduation trip to Japan those plans were temporarily put on hold as my passion for travel was ignited. I've been working two jobs and squeezing the most out of my Vacation time since. After spending the last 7 years working and travelling I'm been inspired to try and give back to this great world that has given me so much. This upcoming fall I will be returning to school, hopefully one day to get into International politics.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Whenever I searched online for info on places I was met with stories of people having amazing experiences around the world made possible by coachsurfing so I took the plunge. I've been able to meet some really cool people and have experiences I never would have been able to have without this site. I hope my wonderful hosts can say the same, and I can become the hoster some time in the near future.

Interests

Recently I've had a growing interest in photography. Really only good at taking pictures of mountains thus far but trying to practice and improve. I'm an avid hiker (hard not to be when you live so close to the Rockies) and like to be active. I'm a tad obsessed with geography and can entertain myself for hours just with a simple map. I also enjoy hockey, dancing, politics and history. I'm not much of a drinker and when I'm on the road I like to put my money towards other things so I'm not the one to go pub crawling with.

Arsenal FC and Vancouver Canucks fan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ever since I was a child I would stare at the map of Canada on the classroom walls and dream about the massive, incredibly remote arctic archipelago in the far North. When I learned of Antarctica my eyes filled with wonder and I dreamed that one day I could go. December 2016 I made that dream a reality and it somehow exceeded all expectations. If you want to hear a boy ramble for hours about a desolate not-even-close to a wasteland than I'm your man.

Teach, Learn, Share

I read, probably, too much news for my sanity to handle but I think it can lead to some great conversation. I also can talk about maps and geography for hours if given the opportunity.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bunch of geopolitical trivia of differing importance. I make a decent latte. Maple Syrup if I can!
