About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have adventures, relax, keep learning, eventually find a place to settle down, live a happy and full life that attempts to be helpful (rather than harmful) to other people and to the earth.

ABOUT ME

I started hosting through CS in the spring of 2009 living in new york city.

I am pretty laid back :)

I live and work in Santa Cruz, in a residential complex which I help to manage at UC Santa Cruz.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

hostin, travelin/surfin, spreading the gospel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

living in nyc for a long time brought many couch surfing friends of mine to my place... i am no stranger to hosting, even before i found out about CS.

I hosted a number of people in spring 2009 through CS. It has been an incredible experience so far, I have been really surprised at how much fun I have hosting. I've learned that (at least for me) CS is more about the people... the free lodging is secondary.

as a guest, i have been grateful for the generosity of friends and family who have put me up on a few previous adventures. Similar gratitude to the CS hosts I've stayed with while traveling from New York City to Portland, OR on an extended trip. I consider myself to be a very low-maintenance guest.

Interests

sports -- ultimate frisbee, soccer, snowboarding, running, ball golf and disc golf, and surfing are some of my favorites.

outdoors -- backpacking/camping, paddling, fishing, foraging (edible wild plants). i feel like i am just getting started w/ a lifetime of outdoors pursuits.

music -- singing, songwriting, guitar, mandolin, bass, piano, harmonica, a little banjo and a few other things i fool around with. i've played in some bands and made some recordings in my day... but music has become less of a priority for me in recent years.

learning -- i like to read, watch documentaries, and soak in knowledge from the library at my fingertips -- the internet.

issues i am passionate about and interested in are international war/conflict vs. peacebuilding, global poverty vs. development/recovery, environmental pollution/destruction vs. protection/sustainability, power/privilege vs. oppression.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Barack Obama elected president of the United States. I was in Harlem at the time. NYC was wild that night!
