About Me

I'm a serial wanderer, always seeking out new experiences. Now that I've earned my degree, I'm making the move from Columbia, Missouri to Moss Vale, New South Wales to pursue Outdoor Education.

I enjoy working in new places as a method of exploring, but also learning the culture. To date, I have guided wilderness canoe treks in Northern Ontario, Canada. I spent two summers guiding sea kayaking and backpacking treks throughout Alaska, USA.

When I'm "home", I work as a teacher and environmental educator for public schools and non profits.

When I'm not working or studying, I enjoy exploring with my friends outdoors. Or staying indoors with good beer and good company.

I've always lived with others, so I'm used to keeping clean, tidy, and quiet. I'm always happy to hang out and explore with hosts, but I'm just as happy keeping to myself if you're too busy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm usually travelling solo, and while I'm content by myself, I prefer to make new friends in new place. I've found this is my favorite way to learn and explore somewhere new. I've Couchsurfed a handful of times, and I've always had wonderful experiences that I would've never had on my own.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I have a broad taste in music, from old country to hip hop, rock, or jazz. I enjoy live shows, I'll go to a concert even if I don't know the band.

Movies: My favorite genre is documentaries, but I'll watch most anything if I'm in the mood for it.

Books: I love nonfiction books about adventures across time periods. Survival books are my favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Solo-backpacked 600 miles through the Rocky Mountains on the Colorado Trail and nearly stepped on by a moose.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a science teacher, so I love to share what I know with anyone who's interested. I have a broad knowledge base that makes me easy to chat with. I especially love chatting about the outdoors, science, politics, adventures, and current events. I'm as good of a listener as I am a sharer, and love to learn about your work and passions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my laid-back, up-for-anything attitude. I'm just as happy cooking a meal in your home together and spending the night in, as I would be spending a night in the city or time at the beach.
