About Me

CURRENT MISSION

De-stress. Take a risk. Learn something.

ABOUT ME

I believe a good-spirited person is always in the company of friends. Maybe that's because I tend to make friends wherever I go. I am generally laid-back, calm and confident searching for the next creative way to have fun or strike up a conversation. I am not needy or prone to emotional reactions, equally happy venturing out on my own or going out with new friends.

I work a high-stress job at a design and branding firm. In my own time I am an artist of many media, but mostly known as a filmmaker. I'm pretty diverse in things I enjoy in my free time, from cooking to riding my vintage motorbike, to beer tasting, but never all at once. I'm all-around adventurous and don't devote all my time to a few hobbies, so you could say I like variety.

I took my first major solo adventure to Key West in August of '09. It was an incredible experience and I happened to meet some great people there from all over the world. It was one of those trips where I seriously considered watching my return flight leave without me.

I've loved traveling since my early days, but have never enjoyed the amount of resources it takes to go outside the US. I'm hoping couch surfing can change that for me.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short, so fill it with great new experiences. Do some things to make life better for someone else. Don't force your viewpoints or beliefs. Admit you don't know everything. Listen.

Know what you are good at and what you are not. Be open and honest. Enjoy life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing:

I'm looking to expand my viewpoints and understanding of new places and people. I want to escape my stress from work and have a great time. I am highly adaptable to the situation and have no problem following your unique house rules and customs, as long as I understand what they are. I can adapt to the situation and either be your new friend or I can just be the quiet house guest who leaves each morning with a smile. I am highly respectful of your property and will clean up after myself. I will be well-mannered, friendly and whatever else you need me to be.

I have been told that i am an exceptional cook so I would like to make it my tradition to prepare a great meal for my host as a token of my appreciation, as long as you do the dishes. Just kidding, I'll do the dishes.

Also, any chance to learn more Spanish would be great!

Hosting:

I can't imagine I'll get an abundance of requests to stay in my current home of Denison, Iowa, but if you would like to come visit I will show you the best time this litte place has to offer.

My couch for 1 is in a spacious apartment in uptown. I have a balcony overlooking a picturesque Iowa scene where you can see at least a mile or two of rolling cornfields outside of town. It's a great place to reflect on the day as the sun goes down.

For a new transplant, I know quite bit of Denison's fascinating history, including some preported haunted spots. I have a group of good friends around my age whom you will surely enjoy hanging out with. We find creative ways to entertain ourselves. I currently have a vintage Honda scooter and a bicyle that could be available for your use while you are here if you're properly equipped.

If you're here on the right weekend, I could potentially take you with me to Omaha for a much more diverse experience. I tend to go to Omaha almost every weekend to get my needed urban sustenance. I am an Omaha expert, if you will, as I lived there for 12 years. I have a couple of places where I unofficially couch surf there, so I may be able to include you in that. I often go to music and art events and hang out with my Omaha friends (most of them live here). I tend to live it up in Omaha so I'm sure we'll have a great time hanging out late into the night.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have lots of experience on couches. My sitting skill is top-notch, centered perfectly between the cushions so as not to wear the couch unevenly. My sleep balance is good and I rarely fall off. I am skilled at adjusting the pillow to properly support my head and the sheets to keep my toes warm.

Seriously, though, I haven't had my first CouchSurfing experience yet. Let's change that!

Interests

I enjoy traveling, making new friends, quiet times, nightlife, good books, music, films, art, craft beer, local lore, organic food, cooking, adventurous dining, architecture, animals, European cars, motorcycle riding, biking, live music, swimming...

I don't watch televised sports and keep up with all the stats, names, players, teams and their respective animals, which is unusual for a guy in my part of the States.

I do not care much for racists, homophobes, snakes, spiders, and McDonald's, among other things.
