About Me

I'm a little bit of a contradiction: some days I can feel like an anxious little bunny who wants to curl up in a blanket at home, other days I'm dying to throw myself into something new and taste some adventure. I can quietly observe a situation and listen to lots of different opinions, then the next minute I'm yelling at some stupid politician on the TV.

Overall I'm just another messy human with a million emotions, but what gets me going is engaging conversation over tea, beer, wine, spirits, hot chocolate - you name it! We have a lot to learn from each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

99% percent of travellers are very cool, curious and open-minded peopl, and I like to be around such people. I also love the chance to join cool events that may or may not include a sneaky pint ;)

Interests

I love going to film festivals that involve filmmakers touring with their films and going to live music events that have an eclective line-up.

I also like to try most things at least once: capoeira, canyon swinging, making zoetropes, voguing, tap dancing, the odd cooking class.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love trip hop (Massive Attack, Portishead), alternative ladies in pop (Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Björk, Joanna Newsom, Janelle Monae), hip hop (J Dilla, Q-Tip, The Roots, Erykah Badu), soul, motown, sad country songs and cheesy 80's tracks. I'll throw in some Aphex Twin and Brian Eno when I want to chill out.

Movies / TV Shows: I'm quite nerdy when it comes to movies so my list could go on forever, but recent favourites include Parasite, The Lighthouse and The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Some of my favourite TV shows of all time are Bojack Horseman, Peep Show and Breaking Bad.

Books: Some of my personal favourites are 1984, Catcher In The Rye, Morvern Callar, Trainspotting, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tipping the Velvet, The Disaster Artist.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was commissioned to create a short film for an exhibition called 'Tokkotai: Contemporary Australian and Japanese Artists on war and the Battle of Sydney Harbour.' The exhibition was inspired by the Japanese sabmariners who died during the attack and was exhibited within an industrial scale former naval oil tank, built and camouflaged against Japanese attack in Georges Heights, Sydney.

It was an amazing and unique experience that I'm so proud to have been a part of.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love introspective conversations that involve unpacking past experiences and learning more about oneself. I really appreciate when people share tricky times in their lives and the wisdom they gained, so I'm definitely open to being open :)

If English is your second language or you are just getting into Japanese study, then I might be able to help!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to share my time and have a laugh over a drink (whether it be tea, coffee, wine or beer.) I can also share any travel experience gathered from various countries, as well as more specific travel advice for Perth, Sydney and parts of Japan.
