ABOUT ME
We are potentially hosting but we would prefer to be contacted through BeWelcome (http://www.bewelcome.org, bluemeanie42) because of the nasty privacy regulations on what used to be CouchSurfing. We have kept this profile open because our old references are connected to it and because, sadly, the community has not rebuilt itself in another location yet (and is starting to look like it never will).
Some of the text that used to make up our profile is now the "More Information about Dresden" section of the Dresden Couch$urfing wiki: http://wiki.couchsurfing.org/en/Dresden. The rest is visible on our BeWelcome profile: http://www.bewelcome.org, bluemeanie42

According to The Tobacco Atlas (http://www.tobaccoatlas.org/), tobacco’s estimated $500-billion drain on the world economy is greater than the total combined annual expenditure on health in all low-and middle-income countries. Income is also lost because 25% of smokers worldwide die and many more become ill during their most productive years.
Tobacco production is not only a massively polluting industry but it replaces potential food production on almost four million hectares of the world’s agricultural land. In Bangladesh alone, if the average household bought food with the money normally spent on tobacco, more than ten million people would no longer suffer from malnutrition and 350 children under age five could be saved each day.
In 2010, tobacco killed about six million people (including more than 60,000 non-smokers); every 6.5 seconds a current or former smoker dies, according to the WHO. Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals, including formaldehyde, cyanide, lead, ammonia, acetone, tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, arsenic, and hydrogen cyanide; at least 50 are known carcinogens.
The coating of chemicals that remains on surfaces (clothes, furniture, etc.) around 48 hours after a cigarette is put out is extremely toxic. These surface contaminants are such a powerful health hazard that they have been proven to cause brain damage in children (and assumedly pets) who come into physical contact with smokers or nonsmokers who have stood near lit cigarettes. Smokers emit poisonous chemicals through skin and hair even when no cigarette is present.
