About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teach art and yoga at a charter school on the coast of South Carolina, and enjoy traveling whenever I get a chance!

Note to self: Never stop traveling.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the lowcountry on the coast of South Carlolina, and after living in NC and elsewhere, I have found myself back home. I enjoy the peace and energy of the outdoors, especially sailing, paddling, and cycling. As an artist and art teacher, I enjoy the freedom of expression I find in the visual and performing arts.

I went to the College of Charleston, where I studied Anthropology and Studio Arts (Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture) and also teach hatha yoga, acrobatic partner yoga, and kids yoga.

I am currently a full-time visual art and yoga teacher for Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I also teach yoga to adults and offer art classes to the community.

PHILOSOPHY

I thrive on change, Im excited by the idea that I can live my life in the present and become more aware of the beauty in living simply and without expectation. It's definitely a hard act to follow, but I've witnessed others live complicated/stressful lives and I want to nurture positive ways of thinking and living. I support ethical treatment of all living things. I don't want a lot of money, I enjoy having a flexible, self-determined work schedule/philosophy. I figure that the more money you have, the more you will spend. I guess Im not a very good consumer (except for thrift stores! ha) I want to learn more about self-sustainable living, and hope to live a life with minimal dependence on government and the economy. Basically, give me a plot of land and a stream (preferably a small town in Mexico) and i will share art and yoga until I transcend this life...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try my best to greet everyone I meet as a long-lost friend, unless they give me reason otherwise. We all need to see the best in each other and ourselves, and with the welcoming and adventurous spirit CouchSurfing embodies, I hope to stay involved as a surfer and a host in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed in Ireland, France, and the Eastern US. I have met so many wonderful people through this network and am looking forward to continuing the journey.

Im captivated by Anais Nin (Henry and June, Little Birds, Delta of Venus), and enjoy studying the Yoga Sutras, and the poetry of Pablo Neruda...good stuff.

I love singing kirtan (chants or mantras in the ancient language sanscrit) as well as old-time bluegrass and Gillian Welch songs

I also enjoy salsa, afro rhythm, swing, bassa nova, blues, and youthful underground experimental stuff!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Doing a headstand on the top of a mountain

(scary and breathtaking, when all you can see is sky!)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a teacher...I enjoy sharing yoga, visual and performing arts, music, and philosophy. I also LOVE to COOK yummy healthy *mostly* vegetarian food :)

I'd love to learn more about outdoor living, sustainable energy, travel-around-the-world tips, and any other knowledge that may be useful in this ever-growing global community!
