About Me

CURRENT MISSION

currently missionless

ABOUT ME

I want to find a better balance of living; a meaningful relationship between other people and the land around me. Travel is one of the best ways to try this.

I'm interested in ideas of community, identity and sustainability - I don't know as much as I would like to, but it's fun to learn. Hopefully CS will give me the chance to learn from like-minded people, and probably meet people who don't share my interests, too. Anything to do with history, folk music and culture, the arts, cooking, or a nice pub - I'm interested!

PHILOSOPHY

If you want to be happy, be kind

I value simple things - a beach or a forest, a starry sky, a fire and a beer is enough for me.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, metal, classical, jazz, choral, world. Currently getting played a lot are Tom Waits, bluegrass, & Old-time.

Literary favourites include Samuel Beckett, Neruda, Italo Calvino, Thoreau and Robert Frost.

Art: Munch, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, surrealism, Dada, interior design, Scandinavian design, architecture

I'm inconsistent in my film knowledge and tastes - I haven't seen many of the films I'm 'supposed' to have seen, I just 'like what I like' - recently this has meant Scandinavian noir, foreign-language films, Dogme95 and biopics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have sailed through the Aegean Sea at night, watching hundreds of lights from boats & island villages flicker on the water, warm wind in my hair.

Teach, Learn, Share

"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." -- Robert Louis Stevenson

land rights & 'right to roam'

I always want to learn new skills, especially handicrafts and practical ways of doing things - I think this aspect of society is rapidly dying out. My dad and granddad could just fix stuff or work out how to make one, and I don't want to be part of the generation that that dies with
