About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To leave a positive impact both on the page but most importantly on the people I meet — and learn as much as I can from them.

ABOUT ME

I have been living the last several years in transit. I say this because my life doesn't feel settled at all. I don't really have a place I call "home" so much as a collection of places that I have spent time in. I love reading, writing, and, of course, traveling. Meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and trying new food — now that's where it's at!

PHILOSOPHY

St Augustine once said "the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." Likewise, I believe travel to be an essential part of a person's education. If you want to truly understand what it means to be alive, you MUST travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I contribute to CouchSurfing by wholeheartedly believing in the idea that an organization such as this, one that seeks to bring people of all cultures and traditions together, is making a positive contribution to the world. How do I know this? Because I have experienced it for myself and am better for it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has quite literally changed my life. I met some of my best friends on here. I could tell you about the trip I took to Iceland where a couchsurfer and her friend took me on a five-day excursion through the majestic Westfjords. Epic. Or I could share the story of how couchsurfing made living in a country (Morocco) that is very different from mine so much better. I could even go back to the very beginning, when this weary traveler had no place to stay in the very chilly city of Tromso, Norway, and my very first host took me in and made me feel completely at home. With each and every experience I have had, couchsurfing has shown me what is best about humanity.

Interests

I have a wide variety of interests, beginning and ending with travel. I love movies and watching a great one with a friend is an experience nearly unmatched in my mind. Writing has always been the outlet in which I can best share what I have learned. About the world, about love, and about humanity.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies. Some of my favorites are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gladiator, Moulin Rouge, The Lives of Others, Love Actually, Talk to Her, Broken Embraces, The Secret in Their Eyes, The Artist, La Dolce Vita, Roman Holiday, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As for books, The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorites, along with A Tale of Two Cities, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Great Expectations, The Three Musketeers, The Hobbit, Atonement, and Karl Over Knausgaard's My Struggle series. As for music, La Roux, U2, Sade, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey — to name just a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow — not really sure what constitutes "amazing" here. I have been fortunate enough to go skydiving, canyon jumping. I like scuba diving. I met Christopher Hitchens before a debate once, that felt pretty special :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love spending time with positive people. Anyone who is capable of speaking about culture, literature, politics, or any number of other subjects is worth spending time with :)
