About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Interested in fostering peace and understanding through building relationships. Interested in travel. What better way to do both than to meet people through Couch Surfing!

ABOUT ME

I like to think that I'm a fairly easy going person. I try to be as courteous to those who host me as possible and hope the same will be true of those I host. You should know that I am an openly gay and relationship oriented man. Your sexual orientation doesn't matter to me. However, you should be comfortable with and accepting of mine in order for us to be compatible in a host/surfer situation. OK, I'm terrible at thinking of what to say about myself. So, I'll leave it at that for now. I'm always willing to answer questions, though.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that life should be lived with joy, friendships, and new experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I had done some informal couch surfing during travels before there was an internet. LOL I've been involved with the CS site & community for about 4 years now. I've made some wonderful new connections and friends through hosting and meeting with CSers locally and in other places. I haven't surfed with anyone through CS, yet. I have hosted several Tampa Bay group potlucks and participated in others, as well as a Florida kayaking group event.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My only couch surfing experiences have been through less structured methods, as stated above. I met many people from all over the world while living and working in Hawaii. Many of the people I met invited me to come visit. Much of the 1 1/2 months I spent in Europe in 1990 was through "couches" provided by such people. Probably the two best experiences I had were in Italy and Germany. My friends, Giorgio and Nicolo, hosted my best friend and I in Verona for about a week. They also took us to Venice for a day and Florence for a couple days. It was a blast!
In Nurnburg, another friend let us stay with him for about a week. He and his mother, entertained us almost non-stop. They were incredible! I've really enjoyed hosting people through the site and hope to have the chance to visit & surf with some of those I've hosted and now consider friends from Europe. Of all the people I've hosted, I only had one less than pleasant experience with someone who lacked community spirit. Additionally, he stole something of little value. Had he asked, I likely would have given it, but that wasn't the case. Otherwise, I've had a fantastic time hosting.

Interests

I love almost anything to do with water, horses, hiking, camping, photography, art, music, theatre, conversations, and of course travel. As I said, I'm fairly easy going. I'll try almost anything. However, I do have a motto: I won't jump out of perfectly good aircraft or off high bridges!

Music, Movies, and Books

Though I enjoy all these things, I'm not good at narrowing down a list as I've seen/listened to/read a variety of each category. It really depends more on mood.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wow, this is difficult to narrow to one thing:
Wild Leopard within a few feet of our Land Rover in Botswana
White-water rafting on a couple rivers and zip-lining thru the jungle in Costa Rica.
Both the pink and blue dophin at the convergence of the Amazon and Rio Negro, plus sloths moving slowly thru the trees along the Amazon at night.
Helping a scared horse make an incredible change in just 6 days on my cousin's farm in Brasil.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Natural horsemanship, English, and a lot of Do-it-yourself project stuff. (My dad sometimes referred to me as the "Jack of all trades, master of few."

Learn: Portuguese, almost anything, except prejudice!
