About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Geronimoooooooo!

ABOUT ME

Born in the wastelands of lower saxony between Hamburg and Amsterdam, grown up in the very same place, soon after learning to walk and speak and these things I began to feel that rural silence between cows and more cows could not be everything in life, though most people seemed quite satisfied with beeing born, growing up, struggling to earn a living from the hard soils of the windblown country, and finally be released from this world. Unlike others I never thought of the horizon as a border you'd better not come to close to, but more as a cover, shielding secrets from my eyes. So when I found out that you could not just look behind this curtain, but even (in a way) cross it, I started to think of the exploration of this huge new world of endless possibilities as something like my destiny, or maybe some kind of sacret mission. I started to read any adventure novel I could get my hands on, especially those with sailing ships in them. I am attracted by maps as a moth is by the light of a candle, and just as the poor naive insects wings, I catch fire and won't be able to stop burning with desire, until I see the exotic places I read or heard about with my own eyes. I like to think of myself rather as an explorer than a tourist, restless, homeless in ways, but at the same time at home wherever I go.

Beeing an explorer, naturally, I am in opposition to anything that stands in an explorers way, and don't think of borders of most kinds of something to be obeyed, but to be overcome. I don't take kindly to people who think that their oppinion must be the right and only right one, just because it is theirs, and who try to force their oppinion on others. I think, everyone should be free to dowhatever they want, think and say whatever they want, apart from anything, of course, that inflicts another persons freedom. Any attempt to limit this freedom needs a very good explanation or, if no satisfying explanation is presented, to be fought as the major threat it is.

SO MUCH for the poetry version of my life.
It all comes down to everyone being nice to each other, really. I like to keep things simple.

So I think life should be about beer with friends, motorcycle rides (got a nice 1994 travel enduro), beaches, palm trees 'n stuff. It usually is more like exams about stuff you don't give a damn about or making money for a boss you don't like, but whatever.

I used to play Icehockey and do some martial arts, but since my elbow tends to make funny noices when I wave it arround to much I switched to a, lets say, rather relaxed way of life, leaving only a skinny shadow of that big chunk of muscle I used to be (allright, maybe I wasn't that big. And maybe it was not all muscle).

I am studying biology at the present time, but to be honest, as much as I am interested in this stuff, I am not sure if there is any biological job that I could do for very long. I am not the kind of person to dedicate my life to a certaín kind of beetle, although I respect anyone who feels able to do this. Maybe there is a career in scientific diving for me, or in brain surgery.

I like to take life like that bear from the junglebook does, interupted by episodes of "like that dude in crank does". This should sum it all up.

PHILOSOPHY

Never thought so much about it, but I'm afraid "because I can" would match quite well. Of what use are this worlds endless possibilities, if you decide to do the same boring thing every day for the rest of your life? And what are your limits, if you refuse to believe in limits? Gravity didn't stop us from flying, having lungs didn't stop us from breathing under water. So why would you need to excuse or explain anything you do? And who do you owe an answer, anyway? If anything's possible, why not do whatever you want?

There ist also a story I enjoy a lot: The Tourist who tells the poor fisherman to found a company, so he could spend his evenings sitting at the harbour to watch the sunset, while they are sitting at the harbour, watching the sunset. The fisherman replies: "But thats what I'm doing, dude!"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Many people I met via CS helped me a lot, so now that I am bound to this place for a while, I'm going to return the favour with having you stay at my awesome house. Welcome.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I like to hitchhike, I often meet interesting people, who offer a couch or at least a lawn for the night. Sometimes even a meal. Or some drinks. So yeah: Couchsurfing ist great. By now I also had some experience via the page, and couchsurfing is a welcome alternative to crowded hostel dorms or lonely tent nights.

Music, Movies, and Books

V for Vendetta. A heart touching and very present story, happening every day in many different layouts.
Braveheart, same here. And so many others, especially epic tales of heroes, but also action and funny movies.
Sott Pilgrim vs. the world, Superbad, Harold and Kumar, Old men in new cars and so many more.

Same with books, favorite Authors: Terry Pratchett, may he live forever, Matt Ruff and Walter Moers.

I prefer Rockmusik, but I am pretty fine with most other kinds of music. I like some rapmusic, less pop and house, but it depends on the song, really. Not a big fan of teenystars, though.

My favorite show is Scrubs, I like to think of myself as a (very) male version of JD, although my sister would say I'm a smallbreasted version of Elliot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchiked Australia. More than 10000 kilometers.

Passed the Tasman Sea in a fishing boat, the supposedly roughest seaway in the world.

Trained myself a really nice sixpack. Shame I lost it two weeks after that moment I looked in the mirror and decided it was perfect. 'cause Im a lazy bitch sometimes.

Taught myself to ride motorcycles, rode up the australian coast on a crappy bike from a hardware store.

Teach, Learn, Share

I got one of the most valuable skills on the damn planet: I can stay calm in most situations. Seriously, a lot of shit wouldn't happen if people spent more time on this.

My cooking is not too bad, and I make an awesome greek salad, though you'd better like onions if you try it.

I'm really good with video cutting software and would love to work on movies for a living, but there's a lot of things that I find just as interesting.

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In
