ABOUT ME

My name is Robert Parker. Er, hi! I'm a singer/songwriter. My artist name is Bobby Jo Valentine.

I'm a friendly, energetic, drama-free adventure-seeker. I love listening and sharing songs, stories, and learning new things (there's so much out there sometimes it's overwhelming!)

I sing and write songs and love what I do! I released my first album in March of 2011. Been touring full time for a few years now. Very lucky!

I've had some big breaks. I've been able to open for folks like Taylor Dayne, Tony-Award-winner Levi Kreis, Amber Rubarth, and have gotten good feedback from Bob Schneider, Danny Malone, and Sony record label executives.

BUT I still like playing intimate, warm concerts. So every now and then, I embark on a 'couch concert tour,' where I offer a concert to folks kind enough to let me crash on their couch. Maybe you'll be one someday! :)

PHILOSOPHY

I love life, and think it should be enjoyed to the fullest. I think you have to give in order to get in life, and the more you give, the more you get. It's a spirit of generosity thing. It's how I conduct my music career and my personal life.

Conan (yes, late night Conan O'Brian) said something before he got kicked off late night TV. He said "Nobody likes a cynic, so don't be cynical; but if you WORK HARD, and BE NICE, then things will open up for you."

I totally agree with that.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm excited and ready to experience the wide world out there! I give back by offering concerts to folks.

As far as hosting, my partner and I have a room, but we're in the middle of construction so we won't be ready with it for a little while.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I attended a West Coast Songwriter's Conference in Palo Alto, CA, and had an opportunity to couch surf at an AMAZING German friend's house. He was a fantastic host, and one of the kindest people I've ever met. I got inspired and decided to do some more :)

Since then, I've surfed quite a few couches (and hosted people outside of CS.) It's been fun.

I love people that are interested in spending quality time together, being friendly, maybe even sitting down and listening to/sharing a few songs :-)

Lars and the Real Girl is by far my favorite movie. Holy cow, that movie is AMAZING.

I love Freelance Whales for music, along with other singer/songwriters, and eclectic weird bands that you've probably never heard of. If it has a strong melody and good songwriting, I'll probably love it.

I was in the middle of a thunderstorm near Lake Tahoe, and the lightning was crashing 25-30 feet in front of us. Terrifying and mesmerizing.

Also, one time in South Carolina, I swam out underneath a waterfall and just stood there letting it cascade on me. That was fun.

Also, I've spent countless nights singing and playing with musical friends all around the world. I wouldn't trade those nights for ANYthing. ANYTHING. :-)
