About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live the best life that I can and meet as many fine people as possible along the way.

ABOUT ME

I love to spend time with my family, constantly meet new people, and travel with every opportunity. In 2011 I went backpacking Europe for 9 months and by the time I was done I had visited 20 countries and stayed overnight in 70 different cities. Another trip in 2013 brought that number to 96 cities across 25 countries on the other side of the ocean. Since 2014 I have been working full time as a travel agent which has taken me all over the world, and in 2018 I crossed off another 8 countries across Asia. I have met many incredible people along the way from many different walks of life - though I met only a fraction of those through Couchsurfing the program itself proved to be an invaluable travel resource!

With a history degree my basic plan was to tour museums and ancient ruins all across Europe; learning as much as possible to extend my own personal education. I have always believed in life that you should be in a perpetual state of learning. I enjoy music and festivals: often road tripping or flying anywhere to see something worthwhile. I snowboard, run long distance, do yoga, and play other sports. Keeping active is not terribly difficult considering my generally high energy levels.

For anyone thinking about hosting me / being hosted by me, i have worked in many restaurants and can cook (somewhat, i'm no expert but i can get the job done), I always clean up after myself and very self sufficient. In all likelihood i will leave a space far cleaner than when i arrived.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is beautiful, live each day as though it were your last.

Always keep the spirit.

And the butterfly effect - that a smile can travel around the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting, surfing, meeting travellers, lending a helping hand whenever possible. And always, always paying it forward!

Started this flag counter after I already had 1100 page views. So we will see how it goes!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have traveled now 25 European countries and in many of them either Couch Surfed or met people through the program. After arriving home from my last trip I hosted as many people as it was possible to do, and now I am back on the road doing what it is I love doing most in the world. When I get back home, you can believe that I will be trying to show as many people a good time in Canada as I can :)

Interests

Reading, snowboarding, an obscene amount of music, movies (all kinds, many of my favourite movies were made before 1970), music festivals, history, camping, hiking, yoga, traveling, running - life in general!

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many to come up with any proper lists but i do enjoy classic cinema like Some Like it Hot, the Odd Couple, Bringing up Baby, Double Indemnity, It's a Wonderful Life, etc.
For music i like pretty much everything though my focus changes every few months. Lately i have been listening to plenty of different blends of electronic, psy, glitch, funk, reggae, pop, indie, IDM, etc ad nausium. Music is pretty much my greatest passion in life and i could never even imagine committing myself fully to only one or even a couple of dozen genres.

Thankfully I have made plenty of time recently to get back into my reading obsession. I was even banned from my grade school library because i read so much that I was not doing any school work! I pretty much read everything I can get my hands on.

Teach, Learn, Share

-I have a degree in Classical History, and really enjoy discussing the origins of man and culture. I get passionate when i start talking about the interplay of history and culture, or just generally how history all ties together and how modern cultures derive from it. I obviously have much to learn on the subject and am an avid listener!

-I would love to learn more about languages, specifically German, and modern European cultures. I also have quite a knack for electronics and can likely help you out with any needs in that department if you need education or just technical support.

-Photography has been one of my great passions over the last few years - I find that I love talking about it and teaching people basic aspects of how to make the camera work for you. Recently I walked into a street sign while excitedly explaining the difference between aperture and shutter speed while walking through Stanley Park in Vancouver. These things do happen!
