About Me

Hello! I'm a Singaporean living in Berkeley, California.

I am a researcher and musician by profession, a wanderer at heart. I embrace diversity of all kinds! I love making friends and having good conversations.

Here're some things I try to live by 😊
• Pleasure can be found in the simplest things
• We are what we think, we are what we do
• Be always honest, be always sincere
• Technology is a tool, not a race
• I am so tiny in the entirety of space and time

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There is no better way to travel than to step into everyday life in a new place. We are all part of the same humanity, and I am reminded of that when I couchsurf.

Interests

I believe that the world will be a better place if we embraced diversity of all kinds.

I absolutely love music. I play the violin, piano, ukulele and love singing with others. I really enjoy attending concerts, symphonies, opera etc., but in making music, I am more inclined towards spontaneous and informal musical experiences. Having a connection with someone through music is the best feeling ever! Jamming, open mic sessions, experimenting with equipment, sharing favorite music, and singing with others... Just having FUN through music! That is what music means to me.

I love learning about different societies, cultures, lifestyles, food, and having open conversations. My most precious memories from traveling have never been about the destination; they have always been about the experience I shared with others.

I love nature. I love hiking, looking at down-below from up-above, watching sunsets, breathing in the fresh air of trees, rivers, sea, anything that planet earth has given us.

I love painting and drawing. I appreciate all forms of expression. I'm forever amazed at what human beings can create.

Apart from that, I'm always up for an adventure. I love exploring places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I live and breathe music. My taste in music forever evolves as I discover more and more artists I like.

TV/Movies: I love clever shows/films with interesting plotlines and thoughtful execution.

Books: I read a lot.. mostly academic journals and nonfiction now. The Little Prince and the Giving Tree remain my two favourite books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Busking in NYC and Boston with my trusty violin. I learnt so much, and met so many amazing people just by openly sharing my music.

I've also climbed a ruined (and blocked off) section of the Great Wall of China. We started climbing at 4am to catch sun rise, and continued on for the entire morning. The view was just breathtaking! Mountain after mountain, with the worn-down walls snaking around us.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I travel with my violin and would love to play music with/for you. I love learning about the lives of others, and would gladly share some tales myself.
