About Me
CURRENT MISSION
meet wonderful people in nicaragua.
ABOUT ME
I'm about to be a senior at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. I'm studying environmental studies. At school, I live in an amazing cooperative living house which has taught me to live consciously, conscientiously, and sustainably. It's been the most amazing experience. Right now, I'm interning at an NGO in Managua, Nicaragua called AsoFénix. I try to travel on the weekends (I'll be here through August 22nd) and would love to meet people and share myself a little bit.
PHILOSOPHY
Compassion is key. I try to challenge myself (and sometimes, others) to be both critical and compassionate, to smile at adventure, and to embrace the situation at hand. I also try to make connections between the way I live my life and the way the world works. I don't believe that one person can force the rest of the world to change, but I do believe that the world changes with every decision, so decisions should be made well.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I'm at school, my cooperative offers couches to surfers coming through the Hudson River Valley. Mostly, though, I try to meet people while I'm traveling.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Spent an amazing few days in Paris couchsurfings a couple of years ago and that sealed the deal for me. I'm excited to have an excuse to use this website again, because it has exposed me to some incredible, open, warm, and really intelligent people.
Interests
Ummm. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to be kind to myself and others while also being critical of some of the more messed up things in this world. I also really love to read and write, and I spent a long time training to be an actor and a singer. That part of my life has (probably) passed, but I love the arts and think it's super rad when people expose me to new music/books/movies/etc.
I also really enjoy hiking and want to start getting into outdoor sports like rock climbing. I'm a little bit afraid of heights so this might be a challenge. I also have little to no ability to swim, even though I live next to the ocean and love the water.
I'm interested in taking walks. I'm also interested in having conversations.

Music, Movies, and Books
Unfortunately, I'm really bad at deciding what my favorites of anything are. I listen to pretty much whatever music people put in front of me. And I'm thankful for the people who DO give me music, because I'm wayyyy too lazy to find it/keep it for myself!
I like books a lot but weirdly being in college has made me forget what it's like to read solely for pleasure. I sometimes like rambly pseudo-fiction like Big Sur and Tropic of Cancer, but mostly I like novellas and fiction that is surreal and dreamy and a little bit creepy. Giovanni's Room is to this day the book that has stuck most in my head, but that could be because it was a gift from my best friend.
Movies! Movies! Movies! The Fantastic Mr. Fox. That is my favorite movie. Show me something, I'll probably be entertained by it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I picked myself up and moved to Nicaragua for three months. This is still astounding to me.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am proficient in Spanish (but I now speak it with a vaguely Nicaraguan accent). I'm fluent in English. I have been a vocal coach and I've got experience with organic gardening.
I would really love to learn more arts -- drawing, painting, music, etc. etc. I would like to learn anything you would like to teach me, probably!
