ABOUT ME

Read too much, watch way too many films, love not having a car, getting into mountain biking and X-country skiing and still find seasons amazing after a decade and a half in Prague. Growing up in Arizona will do that to you.
Have left my job as managing editor of The Prague Post to pursue a life dream of filming and producing documentaries. Going grand so far, if slowly - to be expected at first tho, esp. when ur working with zero budget. But already immensely rewarding - doing something on mad Czech scientists and kids stuck in state homes forever for no good reason.
Also teach journalism at a small college, which I recommend to every professional writer - nothing teaches you the merits of your daily working assumptions better than having them questioned by sharp young minds.

PHILOSOPHY

Have shoes, will travel. And Karma comes back a lot sooner than in the next life.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Offer floor space when I can - alas, my sofa would only fit a dog (albeit maybe even a labrador). Just note that there's a lot of reconstruction going on in my building. And, because it's a character-ful old edifice from the 1920s, all the reconstruction has given me some lovely falling plaster and water stain issues...other than, that, pretty cozy here.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have met many great souls who helped me to feel like a native in Ireland and Paris and are usually great help with carousing. Hoping to help others do the same in Praha soon.

Interests

Documentary, film noir, blues, classic Prague pubs (a handful still stand), good travel books (or any other kind), digital editing, a bit of graphic design, a lot more photography, singing now and then at the local jazz club Sunday jam.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Third Man made me move to Europe,
The Hours is not just for chicks, Pick up on South Street is worth tracking down and there's a new Czech one called Left, Right Center that's got a buzz.
And Hitchcock's The Foreign Correspondent is still one of the coolest things ever shot (even if the plane crash in the sea bit is totally OTT).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An osprey nest atop an incredibly jagged cliff off the west coast of Corsica - sadly the osprey was out to lunch. Also, it snowed on Nov. 3 this year in Praha, which always amazes (but never sticks).

Teach, Learn, Share

I make the best handmade tortillas in the Czech Republic (pshaw) and can share this valuable secret, along with how to macerate mint for mojitos and find a good subject for a story.
